Step into the kitchen/diner which has a really homely farmhouse feel, and although traditionally-styled, the kitchen has every modern appliance you could need for preparing your holiday meals, fully equipped with everything from corkscrew to pizza cutter, as well as tea & coffee, and a range of herbs and spices (even olive oil!) for the avid cook to rustle up a storm for everyone. The sitting room has a lounge/diner layout, and is a great place to relax with a good book by the woodburning stove, chat about your day or to watch a good movie, as the cottage has its own Netflix account for you to enjoy during your stay. On the first floor you have a choice of a king size room with an en-suite shower, a double and a twin – our bedding is to hotel standard, with allergy free bedding to the twin room, as well as luxurious feather duvets, pillows and mattress toppers in both the king and double room. Take a relaxing soak in the roll top bath in the luxuriously spacious bathroom at the end of your day, or begin it with a refreshing shower before heading out to the private garden and letting the views of the fells sink in. The local village of Torpenhow is set in an idyllic area, with plenty of walking from the front door, and Bassenthwaite and Keswick not far away, Ivy Cottage offers the Lake District and all its attractions on your doorstep. The town of Cockermouth, famous as the birthplace of William Wordsworth, is close by and offers excellent independent shopping for souvenirs or groceries from the large Sainsbury's, as well as offering a wide range of cafes, bars, coffee shops and restaurants showcasing food from both local dishes to Thai and Chinese cuisine, and Pizza and Tapas. If you are keen to see the work of local artists, Cockermouth also has the wonderful Percy House Art Gallery with work from all over the region, or you can visit the Castlegate Gallery which is a nationally recognised gallery featuring the work of 20th Century British artists. Wigton, offers a local centre for all your grocery shopping from the local Lidl, parking is easy to find and a range of independent butchers and grocers are at your fingertips. A car journey to the Solway coast for a day out with a difference will bring you to Maryport, a bustling town which is home to the Senhouse Roman Museum, The Lake District Coastal Aquarium, a picturesque marina and lovely walks along the River Ellen. Aspatria is a modest town resting within West Cumbria, on the outskirts of the Lake District National Park. Sitting on the site of an old Roman road and boasting a 19th century St. Kentigern church, it makes an extremely exciting base. Alongside these historical delights are a selection of independent and high street shops, as well as a good range of eateries. Nearby Wigton holds a market every Tuesday, as well as making a popular town for shopping and various leisure activities.
