Location Details

Located in the south-western part of beautiful County Wexford, the village of Fethard-on-Sea may be found tucked away to the east of the Hook Peninsula. The lifeboat disaster that occurred in Fethard-on-Sea in 1914 and the subsequent Fethard-on-Sea Boycott are both iconic moments in the town's history that have been memorialised in literature and film. Fethard, now a sleepy fishing and vacation town, is a pleasant place to set up camp and explore the area's sandy beaches, charming shops, and lively pubs. The old lighthouse and the several beaches on the Hook Peninsula continue to draw visitors. There are enough beaches on the Peninsula to keep you busy for two weeks, and you can also enjoy scuba diving, snorkelling, and shore fishing, as well as other arts and crafts, like painting, or even birdwatching. Tintern Abbey, with its walled garden, guided tour, and forest walk; Dunbrody and Graiguenamanagh, two mediaeval abbeys; the star-shaped Elizabethan Fort at Duncannon, which houses a military and maritime museum; and The Cockleshell Art Gallery are just a few of the fascinating historical sites in the area. The JFK Arboretum and the Dunbrody Famine Ship are only two of the attractions in New Ross; in the west, Waterford is home to Waterford Castle and Waterford Crystal, while in the east, Wexford is home to the Wexford Opera House, Johnstown Castle, and The Heritage Park.
