Connecting the two halves are winding streets, flights of stairs and the steep funicular railway. The town is home to a variety of shops and eateries, as well as a host of heritage, including the ruins of a fortress, dating back to 896 and Lavington's Hole, a Civil War-aged tunnel dug into the towns soft sandstone.
