This stunning 1720s Georgian small and cosy cottage is situated in the heart of the conservation area of Frome. Just a five minute walk from the artisan Catherine Hill, with its wonderful selection of independent shops and cafes, and a short stroll from the centre of this popular independent market town, this unique and historic property is a rare treat. Troopers Cottage has undergone extensive renovation work in the last year to restore key original features and now offers a stylish, well-presented combination of modern comforts and early Georgian architecture. If you are looking for peace and tranquillity, then this is the holiday property for you. Thick stone walls keep Troopers Cottage cool and calm in the summer and toasty warm in the winter: an all year round holiday experience that is rarely available. If you can tear yourself away from Frome, you will find Longleat House and Safari Park 15 minutes away by car; the peaceful Roman/Georgian city of Bath a mere 25 minutes distance and the vibrant city of Bristol just 45 minutes away. The surrounding area is also home to two of Somerset’s areas of outstanding natural beauty – Mendip Hills and Cranbourne Chase – as well as Wiltshire’s famous Stonehenge. Upon entering this open plan cottage, you will arrive in the cosy living area, which is dominated by the incredible original stone fireplace and bread oven. Brick partitions show some Victorian-era additions, separating the cooking area from a small warming seat that you are welcome to sit on! You can relax throughout the day on your choice of a leather sofa or occasional chairs while you watch live television or your favourite Netflix shows on the Smart TV, or choose from one of our offered range of books and board games. The cottage benefits from luxury vinyl flooring throughout, as well as many USB points to allow for easy charging. The super modern kitchen area consists of a glass dining table that seats four people and a bar stool to make cooking more of a sociable occasion. The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, washer dryer, electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer and microwave. You will also find a toaster and a coffeemaker to make breakfast easy for all. A stylish bathroom is also found on the ground floor, complete with walk-in shower, sink basin, heated towel rail and WC, as well as storage for your toiletries. Going up the carpeted stairs and past a stunning oak newel post, you arrive at the cottage’s two bedrooms. The king-size double bedroom looks out onto the quiet Dickensian-style street through two deep set windows with wide sills. A chest of drawers and set of hooks are provided for your clothes, as well as a hair dryer. In the single bedroom, you will find bunk beds sized for adults, as well as another chest of drawers and set of hooks. To the rear of the cottage, there is a fully enclosed small garden with a lawn and a patio area. A glass table with an umbrella for those balmy sunny days has four comfortable chairs so that you can relax out in the sun after a busy day of exploring. Dog owners will be pleased to know that the fencing is six feet tall and benefits from a latched gate. The history buffs among you may be interested in some of the history behind Troopers Cottage. Pictures around the cottage display various versions of the street and the building itself and you can find out more by delving into several provided books on the conservation area of Frome. Trinity Street, formerly known as Trooper’s Street, is steeped in centuries of historical interest. Not least is the 19th Century Holy Trinity church at the end of the street: a Grade II listed building with pre-Raphaelite stained glass windows designed by Edward Burne-Jones. Frome has appeared in The Sunday Times’ “best places to live in the UK” every year from 2017 to 2020, due to its abundance of history and natural beauty along with a wealth of independent shops. There are more listed buildings in Frome than in any other town in Somerset and an annual festival in July showcases the town’s vast cultural offering. Frome is a historic town in eastern Somerset on the banks of the River Frome. Situated in an enviable location, between the Cranborne Chase AONB and Mendip Hills AONB, you will find plenty of scenic walking routes, along with a wide selection of shops, cafés and pubs for delicious food. Catch a film at the Westway Cinema, take a stroll around Frome Museum and learn more of the extensive local history, or enjoy a stroll along the river. Just stayed at this cottage and it is a gem. The bad first... As am older property there is no driveway and so its a park on the road. Be warned the road is a dead end with no turning point. However, we could always find enough room to turn our SUV and also park directly outside. Therfore, small price to pay but feel I should warn you! Now the good... Beautifully restored and decorated cottage which allows a dog to be taken. The welcome basket was amazing and the bottle of prosecco in the fridge was wonderful after the trip down! Fabulous shower in a great spacious bathroom. Small garden but with a good table and chairs in it. With a into everything dog the garden was secure as we stopped the fizz. Kitchen was well stocked with all you'd need and the crockery was lovely. There are some lovely paintings of Frome, which we would have loved to take, but the cards on the welcome pack were great for memories. My very minor gripe no small freezer as being able to have a few frozen bits with an always hungry 13 year old would have been a bonus. Bedrooms on the small side but again, compensated by the too die for mattress on the double bed. I can definitely recommend the cottage! P. S. Beautiful weather whilst at the cottage and it was nice and cool to come back to.
