The small village of Holmbridge is situated just 1.5 miles from the traditional Pennine market town of Holmfirth, within the beautiful Holme Valley. The village has two pubs, a cricket club, a convenience store, a church and its own vineyard which offers tours, tasting and great food. In 2014 the Tour de France passed through the village and the challenging climb of Holme Moss is nearby. Close by, the town of Holmfirth has old stone cottages, winding streets, parks, shops, bars, restaurants and the infamous music venue, The Picturedrome. The Holme Valley hosts a number of festivals throughout the year including the now famous Festival of Folk (May), The Arts Festival (June) Food and Drink festival (September) and a great Music Festival (October). These main festivals run alongside and with other smaller festivals and weekends, such as the Film Festival, The Macmillan Art Exhibition, the Christmas markets, The Scarecrow Festival and, of course, the big cycle race ‘Le Tour De Yorkshire’, this is a wonderfully cultural place to visit. The town was made famous as the setting for the long-running comedy series Last of the Summer Wine. The nearby Colne Valley is home to fictional Skelthwaite from the Where the Heart Is series and, within reach, is the wonderful Peak District National Park – the setting for many picturesque and breathtaking scenic views. The town of Huddersfield and the bright lights of Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield are all within a short drive, making this an ideal base for exploring this exciting and exquisite area of Yorkshire.

Reviews

4 of us stayed here for 7 nights early september and our initial thoughts were "this is ok" until we soon realised the place looked like it hadn't been cleaned for months on end. Yes the bathroom had been wiped round and a quick hoover right through but that was it. My wife and her sister are clean freaks and spent the first 3 hours of our stay cleaning as much as the could before they were a little more comfortable. Thick dust on surfaces, window ledges, tiles, toilet brush disgusting, crumbs in toaster tray that have been there for months, microwave filthy, cobwebs everywhere, plus lots more. Rear of the property has very small seating area but bushes and shrubs all overgrown so only enough room to swing a cat. Front of the property a mess too. Interior all needs freshening up, looks like it ain't been painted in years. The rug in the lounge threadbare, settees cheap and mega uncomfortable, bare patches on bedroom carpets. We lasted 5 nights before deciding that was enough. if you're looking to book this place then book with extreme caution. We certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Good luck!!
