Reviews

Very nice property in lovely area. Easy to find and pleasant 10 minute walk to beaches and pub. However there are issues that future guests should be aware of. On a positive note the property was spotlessly clean and stocked with more than I have seen in other properties. The owners were very friendly and helpful until there was a problem. We were not allowed access until 5pm being told that was Sykes policy. After a 4 hour drive we decided to sit outside and have a cup of tea. On sitting on one of the patio chairs the arm came off. So I moved to another and one side collapsed causing me to jar my back. This was wooden furniture that was rotten. I reported it and was told it had outside unused for a couple of years. A few days later it was replaced and the owner admitted it was rotten. There was a strong kerosene smell around the patio and hot tub area. Again we reported this but it was dismissed as "well it is aircraft fuel". The green tank is just behind the hottub. I have owned heating oil tanks before and never has one smelt like that. On Monday before 8am we were showering and dressing only to find two gardener's ahead allowed themselves into the rear garden. There are no blinds or curtains on the windows and we did not get a warning they were due or even coming. We narrowly avoided an extremely embarrassing situation which could have been avoided by a simple communication. There was an underlying drain smell in the ensuite which permeates into the bedroom. After the accident my back worsened and on Monday we had to make the difficult decision to return home as I couldn't even stand and was in a lot of pain. On return we notifed sykes who it turns out offer the guest no protection or help. Their email, went straight to contracts and that they are just commission taking agents. We have used sykes many times in the past but after this will never use them again. They only work for the owner. Disappointgly despite the incident that ultimately ruined our annual break being due to the owners failure to meet their duty of care by ensuring that provided outdoor furniture was safe, they also refused a simple request of a partial refund. Given the circumstances this would have been a simple gesture but I am told I have to take legal recourse. We are so disappointed that what could have been simply put right will now incur unnecessary wasted time and cost. Understand that occasionally things go,wrong that's life but as owners you have to take responsibility for sorting it out. I have not even had an apology or asked if I am ok. We would have definitely come back here but if you do book be very aware of the above points. Very disappointed that a simple solution and courtesy not dealt with by the owners.
