All ground floor. Three bedrooms: 2 x double, 1 x adult bunks. Bathroom with bath, basin and WC. Open plan living area with spacious, well-equipped fitted kitchen, dining area and sitting area, leading to conservatory.

Warkworth 2 miles. A delightful, detached lodge, set in the peaceful grounds of Eastfield Hall, just 2 miles inland from the coastal village of Warkworth. Eastfield Hall was once a grand Victorian country house and the grounds boast splendid views towards the sea. One of a small number on the site, this large, modern, light and airy child-friendly lodge provides excellent accommodation. Finished to a high standard, this Warkworth cottage offers the convenience of open plan living, in a lovely large room with vaulted ceiling. This Warkworth cottage also has a relaxing conservatory with views over open countryside to Warkworth Castle and Coquet Island beyond - perfect after a day's exploring. The bustling town of Alnwick, with its famous castle and gardens, is within easy reach of this Warkworth cottage, as is the rest of Northumberland's stunning Heritage Coast. Numerous other castles are on the doorstep: Warkworth, Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh to name a few, and just a little further north is the famous Holy Island. Other favourite destinations close to this Warkworth cottage are NT's Cragside at Rothbury and Hadrian's Wall. A superb Warkworth cottage retreat.

Visitors to Warkworth can't escape the imposing ruins of Warkworth Castle – you can see them from pretty much anywhere in the village. Constructed to protect the inhabitants from marauding Scots and other ne'er-do-wells, the 12th Century ruins have found more recent fame as the location for Hogwarts School in the popular Harry Potter films; if you're staying in the area it might be a good chance for you to practice your Quidditch skills! While its origins may lie in the middle ages, Warkworth's most distinctive architecture is Georgian and Victorian, the pretty main street lined with charming shops, restaurants and cafés. There are plenty of attractions nearby to keep all ages amused from the bird watching haven of the Farne Islands to Alnwick Gardens and it's huge tree house.

Reviews

This cottage is such a great find. It had everything we needed and more. Plenty of space, we ended up coming as a 4 instead of 6 due to personal circumstances but if we'd come as a 6 we'd still have found it spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was spotless and well equipped with loads of cupboard, fridge and freezer space, the bedrooms were a generous size with plenty of storage. There were loads of thoughtful extras such as high chair and travel cot, games, books and dvds. The location is fantastic, a short drive from spectacular coastline and beautiful beaches. We had limited reason to contact the host (such as needing a fish and chip shop recommendation!) but her responses were immediate, friendly and helpful. We would definitely book again.

Good location and light and airy and plenty of space. Near so many places of interest but obviously still in lockdown and a lot shut. But this where the positives of this property end I am afraid. It was not cleaned, greeted with dead bluebottles on the bookcases on arrival. The toilet was dirty and I cleaned within 5 mins of arriving. The mats were filthy full of grass, fluff and never seen a vac over them. The oven was dirty and greasy. Left over dinner remains on the crockery. The bathroom and general property was full of cobwebs, the extractor in the bathroom didn't work and neither did the tap on the bath. Silicone was coming away on the bath. The boiler kept tripping out on us, there was a note to say "Due to rural location boiler will trip" and instructions on how to reset. The boiler door fell forward on you and was dangerous. I asked the man in the next property how he was coping with the boiler problem and he didn't have any problem. So Mary Rose needs a new boiler. The gutter over the double bedroom leaked badly and created a waterfall over the window. Garden furniture that was shown on the booking photo was at the back of the property and slimy and dirty and never been cleaned for guests arriving and sitting out. The floor in the lounge was dirty and needed a good mop. The spec on the property said finished to a high standard, well maybe it was at one time but not now. We were told extra cleaning would be done due to Covid 19!!! I could carry on but on the whole the property was tired, shabby and dirty and extremely disappointing which was such a shame as our first holiday since lockdown and we were looking forward to a property of "High Standard". Not good for Sykes Cottages renting a property out like this, it lets them down as a Company.

Lovey cottage in an excellent location. Very warm and spacious and well equipped. Large garden area, ideal for outside living in warm weather and a small conservatory to relax in and watch the night sky, weather permitting. Near to all the lovely spots Northumberland has to offer. Nearest village is Amble, 2 miles, with some excellent local shops and a couple of small supermarkets. There is a very good Sunday market on the quayside with loads of bargains.

Well situated spacious lodge near to Warkworth and Amble with a beautiful beach nearby. We had everything to hand we could need plus games, magazines and DVD's for a family if required. We hope to return next year with our grandchildren! This is a real gem and we would highly recommend it to anyone who loves the countryside whilst being close to the lovely village of Warkworth with its castle, shops, restaurants and cafes. Many thanks for a very enjoyable stay!

Beach at Alnmouth and railway station about 5 miles away. Garden area in front of property suitable for children of all ages to play. The living area was very spacious and the scenery is great.

Rated by Ms Jamieson reviewed on 29th July 2012

Lovely quiet spot no light pollution so lovely starry nights, sea views over fields. Only 14 lodges well positioned so no overcrowding. two steps up into property no ramps. Open plan living / dining/ kitchen, 2 double and 1 bunk bed. Nice sized bathroom with shower over bath. Large lawned area to front with table and 4 chairs new portable BBQ at back to use. Large porch over front door with a 2 seater in facing into open plan area so you would have to turn it round and block entrance to have sea views. "Finished to a high standard" in the information but that was a while ago . The tv is SMALL and the furniture is a little tired. We had to clean some utensils, dining chairs (food on them) the floor in open plan area needed mopping but could not find one. These few niggles should not put you off a lovely location but in high season it is top price.
