Spend the day at the National Trust owned Derwent Island House or head to Hope Park for a picturesque picnic. Lose yourself on a tour of Puzzling Place or soak up the local history at the Keswick Museum before a spot of lunch at one of the many local Cafés or tearooms. Outdoor enthusiasts should be sure to stop by the Bassenthwaite Lake National Nature Reserve, and those travelling with young children will relish in a day at the Lake District Wildlife Park. With so many adventures sitting right on your doorstep, Kent Cottage is the ultimate base for an action-packed escape to Cumbria.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
