Accommodation Details

One bedroom: 1 x double. Bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. Kitchen. Dining room. Sitting room with electric fire.

This enchanting, mid-18th century Lakeland stone, one-bedroom holiday home, is a five-minute level walk to the centre of picturesque Hawkshead. Dating from 1760 it has been lovingly and carefully refurbished to create a contemporary living experience within a traditional period setting, providing a stylish yet cosy ambience. It is ideal for a romantic holiday or a couple wanting to escape the busy world. Walk into the elegant and timeless entrance hall and store your outdoor gear in the walk-in store cupboard. Discover your stylish and cheerful breakfast kitchen with period larder and pretty table for two, then walk into the dining room and admire the cosy dining table and welcoming ambience. A modern bathroom is situated at ground level. An easy staircase leads to the sumptuous sitting room with a feature fireplace surrounding an attractive electric log effect stove and a full height window opening on to a Juliet balcony with lovely views over the garden and countryside. Across the small landing is an exquisite double bedroom with an en-suite washroom. The cottage has been tastefully furnished with co-ordinated fabrics and curtains and with carpets to stairs and main rooms. Other floors are of tile and mosaic. Stroll to Hawkshead and visit the acclaimed Beatrix Potter Museum, run by the National trust. Explore the historic and the beautiful, grade 1 listed village church before visiting Wordsworth’s old school. After all that, relax with a drink in one of village’s excellent cafes or pubs. From your doorstep, you will have the choice of many superb paths and trails around the local area, as well as being in striking distance of some of the best hill walks in the National Park. Drive four miles to Grizedale to enjoy forest walks or bike rides and to have a go on the Go Ape experience. After your busy day relax on the patio, which is attractively set in lawned garden with pretty borders.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
