Discover North Street Cottage in the historic village of Cromford, part of which is designated as a World Heritage Site, offering an idyllic location and an outstanding self-catering experience to this pretty part of Derbyshire. This stunning, Grade II listed, mid-terrace townhouse enjoys three floors of characterful charm, seamlessly blended with contemporary furnishings and modern conveniences to provide a comfortable base for a group of five to call home. The terrace was in fact built between 1771 and 1776 by Richard Arkwright, the pioneer of the water-powered cotton mill and was used to house handloom weavers and their families. The property has sympathetically retained many original features, serving as quiet reminders of its interesting past. Enter the property and be welcomed into the spacious sitting room, where the original feature fireplace takes centre stage before the leather sofa and TV, with the exposed beams adding to the charm of the space, serving as a peaceful spot to delve into a good book or catch up on the latest box set. Moving through the property, you will discover a farmhouse-style kitchen, playing host to beautiful sage green units and a characterful Range cooker, which is certain to entice the chef of the group to whip up family favourite recipes. Meals and a bottle of wine or two can be enjoyed at the dining table, where you can relish in some catch up time with your loved ones, or during a balmy evening take drinks to the sun room, where a plush L-shape sofa is awaiting and positioned overlooking the garden. Once the sun has set, climb the staircase to the first floor to find two bedrooms, comprising of a sumptuous twin bedroom and a single bedroom, whilst on the second floor lies the master suite, boasting a king size double bed with a row of four unique, sash windows, which were originally designed to provide light to enable weaving to take place at home during the 18th century. To the exterior, there is an enclosed garden to the rear and ample on-street parking to the front. Immerse yourself in your surroundings further by meandering through the village, which plays host to a variety of restaurants, pubs and shops. Whilst here, be sure to follow a guided tour of the Arkwright's Cromford Mill to brush up on the story of the site and the restoration work in progress before enjoying a spot of retail therapy at Mason Mills’ shopping complex, which is a World Heritage Site. Don your walking shoes and explore further as you walk along the canal from Cromford Wharf to High Peak Junction or endeavour on the Derwent Valley Heritage Trail, which runs through the village, promising breath-taking scenery, nearby is Black Rocks that hang high above the village Cromford with a view of Derwent Valley. The spa town of Matlock Bath is just a short distance away, where you will also find Gulliver's Kingdom along the way and the excellent Heights of Abraham, which is a hilltop park reached by cable car with walking trails and cavern tours. Continue further afield to find Matlock, where you will find even more places to eat and drink, with some favourites including the Italian, Viva Restaurant and the Indian, Maazi Matlock. From here, you could also venture into the Peak District National Park, where more walking and cycling opportunities awaits, as well as the Hidden Druids Caves and Dovedale Walk, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. If you would like to visit a couple of great museums on your holiday you can find Crich Tramway Museum in Matlock or Eyam Museum just a 40 minute drive away. The market town of Bakewell and the spa town of Buxton are slightly further afield, both promising wonderful days out at any time of the year. At the end of each day, look forward to returning to North Street Cottage to unwind.
