The living areas include a kitchen housing an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, a utility with dishwasher, washing machine, a sitting room with woodburning stove and a dining room. The bedrooms include a double with en-suite shower, a double and a twin, serviced by a bathroom. To the outside is ample off-road parking, secure bike storage and a patio with furniture. Within 0.8 miles there is a shop and within 0.9 miles there is a pub. WiFi, fuel, power, bed linen and towels are included in the price. Two well-behaved pets are welcome however smoking is not permitted. Gag Aye Farm is a splendid retreat in the Peak District National Park, whatever time of year.

When we arrived we had to call the owner as the beds had not been changed. They were stained and wrinkled. We were given a code for the lock and found the bed linen stored on the floor in the eaves (mouldy) and were told to watch out for the mouse traps. There is an old velvet curtain on the bed used as a bed spread. We lit the fire once. The smell of smoke is oppressive and we struggled to open the wooden windows. The chimney pot has broken off and we think the smoke is coming back down. The white painted walls in the sitting room are grey with smoke. Even more worrying are the mould spores which are everywhere; behind beds, in corners, in the eaves wardrobe, around windows. The kitchen floor was sticky and there is a leak from the boiler system in the utility so the floor has puddles by the back door, which we couldn’t open. There is not enough cupboard space in the kitchen and the cupboards in the utility have mould spots. The vintage bed is really rickety and moves when you turn over so we opted for the other room though this has the majority of mould. The sofa is dirty and the cushions paper thin. There was a pack of 4 biscuits and a bottle of milk as a welcome pack. The saving grace is the beautiful location. We stayed one night out of the planned 7 and got a refund for the 6. No doubt the owner will challenge this but we do have photos. I wasn’t going to write a review because it would be so negative but I just wanted to share our experience so people spending around £179 a night have a fair chance of not being in the same position.

"Last Minute Breaks" (LMB) are available at most properties throughout the "LOW", "MID", "HIGH", "PEAK", "XMAS" and "NEW YEAR" periods. The price for a 3 night break is either 65% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. LMBs can be booked within one week of the start date of the holiday.
