Nearby attractions include the North York Moors Steam Railway, Castle Howard, and destinations throughout the National Park such as Hutton-le-Hole, Lastingham, York, Whitby and the Yorkshire Coast further afield.
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

My friend and I have just returned from a few days staying at anvil cottage . A wonderful property that has everything you could possibly need or want . Situated just off the high st , with plenty of free on street parking . The cottage was warm cosy and tastefully decorated with lots of ‘extras’ . The beds were extremely comfortable . Handy for the local shops ( bigger co op just down the road ) little spar really close by , a scattering of other shops too - butchers , bakers but many were closed until after the New Yeas We ate in the kings head and the George and Dragon - can recommend both and the New inn at Thornton Le Dale . My dog came too and have never been to such a ‘dog friendly’ area. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely return !
