Keswick 2 miles. Resting within the idyllic countryside of Applethwaite, Cumbria lies this stone-built, reverse-level cottage, Norton. This former coach house and stands next to Applethwaite County House on the southern slopes of Skiddaw and boasts fantastic views over the Borrowdale over Derwent Water. The main house was once owned by Dr Wakefield, a member of the ill-fated 1924 expedition to Everest led by George Mallory and the residential properties on the grounds are named after the mountaineers, this one in particular being Edward Norton. Arriving at the property, a designated parking space invites you to leave the car and begin your holiday in your home away from home for the trip. Step into the cottage and climb the stairs straight up to the first floor to enjoy your living quarters. Settle down for the evening in the sitting room to watch the Smart TV as the woodburning stove creates a gentle warmth through the space. From here, take advantage of the well-equipped kitchen/diner, home to a Juliet balcony allowing plenty of fresh air into the space, and an electric oven and induction hob so you can whip up meals for the group to enjoy at the dining table as you plan your day's events. When sleep calls make your way downstairs to the bedrooms; the ground floor hosts a super-king-size with a zip/link feature for a flexible sleeping arrangement and a king-size with a sleek en-suite bathroom. Completing the ground floor is a handy utility with a fridge/freezer, along with a shower room and a first-floor cloakroom. Outside, you can savour the summer months in the garden with a glass of wine on the patio, or perhaps prepare a picnic to enjoy on the share two-acre grounds. If you don't fancy cooking, head out to The Pheasant Inn for a delicious meal with your loved ones in the characterful 17th century pub. For days out while at the property, make your way to the town centre of Keswick, home to Keswick Museum, for the history buffs, and Derwent Water Lake, where you can try your hand at some watersports. For a more relaxing day out, Hope Park is also nearby and offers a lovely and tranquil place for some peaceful strolls. Within easy reach is the popular The Puzzling Place, home to fascinating exhibitions for a truly unique experience within the Lake District National Park. Avid walkers and cyclists will find an abundance of trails to discover nearby, with Grisedale Pike just a scenic drive away and the beautiful cascading waters at Aira Force Waterfall also within easy reach by car. Adventurers will enjoy an attempt at conquering, Scafell Pike, England's highest summit, while the nearby Lake District towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular tourist destinations home to plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants to fuel your next excursion.
