Just four miles north of Weymouth, nestled beneath the Dorset Ridgeway, is the charming village of Upwey. It gets its name from the nearby shallow chalk brook, the River Wey, which emerges from an underground spring. George III once looked for the health advantages of the natural spring water at Upwey's Wishing Well. It is presently a charming tea shop that serves lunch and classic cream teas. Numerous pathways connect the settlement with miles of pristine countryside, and Dorchester, Thomas Hardy's "Casterbridge," is a nearby market town. Weymouth, a well-known seaside town with beautiful golden sand beaches, top-notch water sports facilities, and a bustling harbour, is accessible by bus or simple drive.
