Reviews

Last minute booking as our other accommodation fell through. Jo the owner was really helpful and phoned and emailed all the info we needed as we were unfamiliar with the area. The house is fantastic. It's an extended red sandstone mid terrace at the top of the hill in allithwaite. It has open views to the rear and is in really attractive surroundings. Bedrooms are excellent, 1 double, 1 twin and a single. Cracking big ensuite off the double with a walk in shower. The living room has a log burning stove and would be really cosy in winter. The kitchen diner is modern and well equipped. Nothing you will need is missing. Allithwaite is a beautiful village in its own right. It has a small shop and the Pheasant Inn is a lovely family friendly pub with excellent food. Grange over Sands is only a couple of miles away with the stunning village of Cartmel only a mile the other direction. All in all its a cracking house in a really great location. Highly recommended!

We had a great time in this very well equipped and comfortable cottage. We were 5 people and 2 dogs, all had plenty of room. We loved the views from the back and the cosy fire in the front room. Cartmel has some nice restaurants, pubs and cafés including the Pig and Whistle where we had a very nice meal. Cartmel sticky toffee pudding is highly recommended, we even bought some to take back with us. Flounders fish and chip shop in Flookburgh is also recommended. We visited Muncaster and Sizergh Castle which were both very interesting. Muncaster also allows dogs around the gardens and grounds providing they are on a lead. Don't forget Sizergh farm shop on your way out! Thank you for a great stay, looking forward to our next holiday in the Lakes.

Just returned from a weeks stay at this excellent house. We were 2 adults and 3 children and there was plenty of room for us all. Very comfy and clean. Only thing I would suggest is a flask and plastic crockery would be a great addition for taking out on picnics Im writing this review as I forgot to sign the guest book.

Allithwaite is handy for Cartmel, Ulverston, Kendal, Barrow and Lancaster. There are fell walks, Lakes, bay walks and rides all within easy reach. The cottage is clean, up to date, well maintained and easy to live in and use. I liked using the train at Kents Bank and Cark for journeys round to Lancaster, Morecambe, Ulverston and Barrow. Today I took the train to Ulversyton and walked up Hoad Hill to the Barrow monument. It looks like a lighthouse. Panoramic views over the hills, bay and town. Fat Flour bakery down the hill in Cark, 8 am to 1pm, and Friday and Saturday evenings for pizzas, is good for interesting bread. I especially enjoyed the honey and walnut loaf this time.

Beautiful cottage felt like home from home. Very well equipped, and super clean. The views from the back of the cottage are superb. Good location for surrounding attractions. Would definitely revisit.

Exceedingly nice cottage style terrace only 2 miles from Cartmel, very well equipped with everything you could need. Can't fault the place, will return with friends in the future.

We found the cottage to be lovely and homely. There was a beautiful view and it was situated in a great location. The property was also child friendly with a travel cot, high chair and DVDs available. We would definitely recommend 2 West View to anyone who would like to have a quiet and relaxing countryside holiday.

A lovely house, well-equipped and beautifully presented. The bedrooms are lovely and the twin-bedded loft conversion particularly charming. Havins a separate lounge was a bonus and the beautifully extended kitchen/diner with its views over the countryside is a delightful living space, Parking outside was never a problem, though Allithwaite's lack of footpaths and plenty of throug traffic makes exploring on foot a little alarming. No real shop so need to go to Grange for provisions, But a great base to explore the southern lake lands and the Cartmel and Furness peninsulas, Pheasant Innn deserves its reputation for good food,

10 out of 10! A fantastic holiday cottage in a beautiful location. It was within walking distance of Grange over sands and Cartmel and had good local shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants, etc. Easy access to the Lake District and Yorkshire dales.

Stayed here with our family; a 7 and 5 year old and a dog. The children loved the attic room, and we loved the kitchen (which had everything we needed) with the gorgeous views across the fields over breakfast, and the utility room was fab for use after walks, drying and storing shoes etc. We found Allithwaite not great for dog walks, as very few public open spaces to let the dog off the lead, found a nice park along the railway line on the way into Grange however. The beds were comfortable, linen very clean and fresh, bathrooms nicely laid out. We always drove into the Lakes to get a decent walk, Orrest Head in Windermere perfect for the children, and Muncaster castle great for taking the dog and entertaining the children. We had such a bad week weather wise, storm weather warnings, hail, snow and rain, but we don't feel like we missed out in any way as we found plenty to do in the Lakes and nearby to have a great time. Our only personal downside was that we left ALL the children's Easter eggs hidden on top of a wardrobe on Easter Saturday before actually giving them to them! Ooooops! Will triple check before leaving a rental next time!

The cottage was fantastic. The village was quiet and peaceful, the views were stunning and everything was near to hand so didn't have to drive too far to find something to do. Would definitely recommend this for families and couples of all ages, can't wait to go back.

Really good for a car free holiday, within cycling distance of the train station, secure bike storage. Really well equipped cottage, nothing lacking. Very well presented too, the photos on the website don't do it justice.

Stayed for a week with family and pet dog, I was very impressed with this home from home. It had everything you could need with the owner taking a lot of trouble with attention to detail. Amazing kitchen with fantastic view, comfy beds and lovely master bedroom with en-suite and log burner in the lounge. Having wifi was the icing on the cake, I could happily move in! Will definitely use this property again when visiting the area.

The cottage was so close to beautiful areas and we did not have to go far. It felt like going home every evening and everywhere we went the people were friendly. We did not want to come home.

We had a wonderful holiday in the Lake District. The cottage was comfortable, clean and well stocked with towels, cutlery and crockery. The kitchen was of a particularly high standard and the views from the dining room were truly spectacular. The owner contacted us before our visit and gave us a number of contact numbers and details which we could use if we had any problems. We had no reason to use these numbers but it was re-assuring to know that help was at hand if we needed it. I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage.

Great location for exploring the Southern Lakes. House has been finished to a very high standard. The kitchen is well equipped and has lovely views over the surrounding countryside through the large patio doors. Sitting area is comfortable and the wood burner was a treat. Beds are very comfortable providing a great nights sleep after a days exploring.

The facilities are top class & the knowledge that yourselves and the owners are on hand if needed is very reassuring.

Rated by Mr Twist reviewed on 10th February 2014

This cottage is great. We stayed with our 3 children and there was everything we needed. The cottage itself is really clean and modern inside but in character with the age of the building. Both Cartmel and Grange are nearby and easy to get to. You will need a car.
