Grange-over-Sands is a picturesque Edwardian resort nestled between the Lake District fells and Morecambe Bay, with one of the mildest climates in the north of England. Grange-over-Sands was once a little fishing community, but with the arrival of the Furness Railway, it was converted into a prestigious Edwardian resort. The town now offers a traffic-free promenade, lovely decorative gardens, golf courses, brass band concerts, and superb bird watching to offer visitors. Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many, and Cartmel, with its famous racecourse and the L'Enclume restaurant, which has been voted the 4th best restaurant in the UK, are all within a short drive.
