Location Details

Ardfern is a scenic coastal village on Scotland's Craignish Peninsula, in the magnificent and dramatic Argyll region. Ardfern is an ancient village with evidence of inhabitants reaching back to 600 AD, with a wrecked church on the Peninsula dating from the 12th century. Today, the village has a pub, a shop, a craft centre, a tearoom, and a marina, all of which are conveniently located for sailing off the west coast. Craobh Haven has a second marina, and the towns of Lochgilphead and Oban are worth a visit.

Reviews

The lodge itself was nice. However it spoilt our holiday due to road closures into Lochgilphead. The only place you could go to via diversion was Oban. Be very careful because there are a lot more roads blocked than they let on. If going to Lochgilphead you’ve got to drive all the way round to Inveraray to get to Lochgilphead, which is roughy 3 hours by the time you have driven round Loch Awe. Out of the 7 nights we paid for we only stayed for 2!! Due to the road closures. We booked through Skye Cottages even if we took out their insurance we would not have gotten a good will gesture as they say it’s an act of god. We know the weather is out of people’s hands. BUT Skye cottage/Mark. Need to give paying customers a more up to date on closures.

The location is absolutely lovely. Overlooking a beautiful, calm bay, on what felt like an exclusive little peninsula, you can enjoy glorious early morning sunshine, stunning sunsets across the islands, and awesome night skies, together with lots of local wildlife (all if you're lucky!). We were thrilled to see an otter one morning while we were kayaking, as well as many species of seabirds and the ubiquitous heron. There's a nice pub within easy walking distance (5-7 mins), and a useful little shop for essentials. There are some lovely walks from the doorstep and a little further afield, and a wildlife-spotting boat trip from the marina is a must. A great place to stay and enjoy the natural world. The accommodation is comfortable and well-equipped, and the hosts very helpful without being intrusive.

Had a week here at the end of March. Found the accomodation to be everything we needed. Very clean and cosy. Supurb location with amazing views on the doorstep. Owners very friendly but not interfering. Local pub 5 minute walk away next to harbour with great views also. Plenty of walks straight from the property. Lots of wildlife to view. 40 minute drive to Oban, with lots of shops, eateries and supermarkets. Would thorougherly recommend for anyone wanting a quiet relaxing romantic break. Great for bird watching and star gazing.
