Thornhill is a quiet village in Mid Nithsdale, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. These ancient hills are surrounded by beautiful scenery and the low hills of Carsphairn and Lowther. In Thornhill village is a column supporting a winged horse, the emblem of the Dukes of Queensberry, who own the surrounding land and Drumlanrig Castle. Set on an 80,000-acre estate with a country park and Victorian gardens, Drumlanrig Castle is one of the finest examples of late 17th-century Renaissance architecture in Scotland. Thornhill's location is ideal for day trips to Ayr or cosmopolitan Glasgow.

Very pretty cottage in 360 degree scenery. The best equipped cottage we have stayed in- had everything we needed. Stunning location - we loved watching the red kites and so many stars at night. Very comfortable cottage with wraparound secure garden- our dog loved it. So peaceful and quiet- perfect for relaxing. Lovely owners- excellent welcome pack- especially the free range eggs and dog food/treats but so much more. We would thoroughly recommend.
