On the western fringe of the North York Moors National Park, nestled between the Cleveland Hills to the east and the Yorkshire Dales to the west, is Osmotherley, a charming North Yorkshire conservation village with streets lined with grass and trees. With the Cleveland Way and Coast-to-Coast long distance footpaths passing nearby and serving as the beginning (or end!) of the renowned Lyke Wake Walk, Osmotherley is a particularly popular destination for cyclists and walkers. The old village cross in Osmotherley is surrounded by charming stone-built homes, three pubs, a charming coffee shop, a fully stocked general store, and a fish and chip shop. The market towns in the area, including Northallerton, Stokesley, Helmsley, Thirsk, and Ripon with its renowned racecourse, all have cobblestone market squares, charming tiny lanes brimming with cosy tearooms, exquisite delicatessens, and superb shopping and weekly fairs to offer. Within an hour's drive, you can reach the spa town of Harrogate as well as the mediaeval cathedral cities of York, Ripon, Durham, and Newcastle. This wonderful region has plenty to offer everyone.
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
