Location Details

Amble, a busy little seaport at the mouth of the River Coquet, is an excellent base from which to explore Northumberland. A marina, harbour, sandy beaches, and coastal treks to Hauxley Bird Sanctuary and Druridge Bay Country Park may all be found at Amble, which was once a major boatbuilding hub. The harbour wall is lined with large fishing boats that bring in a wide variety of seafood including fish, prawns, crabs, and lobsters. In order to replenish lobster and other shellfish populations, there is a fish market on the harbor's edge that also offers fresh seafood. RSPB reserve Coquet Island is located a mile south of Amble and is home to several species of birds including terns, puffins, and eider ducks. Alnmouth and Craster, as well as a number of excellent beaches, are just a short drive away, as are the attractive towns of Warkworth and Alnwick, each with their own castles and charming, award-winning gardens, and the National Trust properties of Wallington Hall and Cragside.

Reviews

Wonderful! Redshank is a bright and airy cottage brought up to date with modern furnishings, a well equipped kitchen and a comfy bed (with lovely linen). The property is well cared for and spotless. The welcome pack was much appreciated (wine, crisps and chocolate biscuits together with a bottle of milk in the fridge). The harbour is just a five minute walk. It’s worth visiting Jaspers (need to book) and the Old Boat House. The Harbour Inn has a good vibe. We had a fab breakfast at Cafe 1911 where they serve really good coffee. There are plenty of shops nearby. Redshank is conveniently situated for sightseeing. We walked to Warkworth to visit the castle and called in at Bertrams. Further afield are Alnwick, Alnmouth, Seahouses, Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne and there are many coastal walks. We had dinner at The Tree House at Alnwick Castle and Gardens, which is built into the trees, and is quite magical. We really enjoyed our holiday.

Another fabulous week. Our second visit and just as wonderful as our first. Spotlessly clean, with everything you need and a cosy home feeling. Beautiful town and perfectly located for easy access to everything. Already looking at dates to book again next year.

Wonderful stay at Redshank! We had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful cosy house for a short break. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The beds are so comfortable and the linen is top quality! There is plenty to do in and around amble and the house is perfectly located within a couple of minutes walk to the harbour. We are booked to stay here again and cannot wait!

Just spent a week and this fabulous cottage. Everything was perfect… we didn’t want to come home! The cottage is just wonderful. Spotlessly clean, everything you need is already provided. Homely and spacious, and in an ideal location. Minutes walk to the harbour, restaurants, pubs, stalls etc. Locally there was plenty of little towns and villages with AMAZING beaches and scenery. Already going through the calendar to see when we can book up again! Thank you for the most super week!

We needed a break after a few weeks of exhausting work schedules, and my goodness we chose the right place. Redshank is a haven for peace and comfort. We love Northumberland and visit often but this was the best. Top quality linen, towels and furnishings , warm and cosy(the weather was not kind to us, but we were snuggly in the cottage). The cottage is tastefully and prettily decorated, and a credit to the hosts. We visited many eateries, all easily accessible, due to great location. All in all, a fantastic experience, relaxing in a beautiful place, we cant wait to return.

I stayed at this delightful place between Christmas and New year with my two little boys and our dog. Upon arrival we were greeted by an extremely generous welcome pack including a bottle of very nice wine, this was a lovely welcoming touch and started the stay off perfectly. I was blown away at how immaculate everywhere was and such attention to detail within the property. From games, books and even sky TV which came in handy for those chilly evenings. Having the log burner on and with the fairy lights twinking over the fireplace sipping a glass of wine I was literally in heaven. The bedrooms are spotless as is the bathroom and all linen and towels are of such good quality!. I can honestly say I've stayed in 5 star hotels and the bedding and towels haven't been as good quality. Our days were filled with trips to one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen at Druridge bay and walks around the picturesque Amble. Even the location of this cottage is perfect and me and my children enjoyed some meals in the local restaurants and especially fish and chips at Harbour Fish bar. (Definitely worth a visit). I have already booked again for this year and would like to thank the owners for such a wonderful stay it really is just perfect.
