Location Details
Near the tallest and most spectacular parts of the moor, where Yes Tor rises to a height of more than 2000 feet, is the bustling market town of Okehampton, which sits on the outskirts of the Dartmoor National Park. Just to the north of Okehampton, in the magnificent Devon hills, you'll find quaint farming settlements tucked among woods and fields, and plenty of slow-moving rivers. The magnificent Roadford Reservoir is perfect for a variety of water sports including fishing. The Dartmoor Line presently maintains a service between Okehampton and Exeter every hour, seven days a week, and the town is home to a notable mediaeval castle overlooking a wooded river valley, the Museum of Dartmoor Life, and the Okehampton train station, which has been restored to its 1950s splendour. Simmons Park features a children's adventure playground and the town is home to some wonderful walks. Travelers looking to unwind in the midst of beautiful, natural scenery will find no shortage of farm stores and quaint country inns in this part of Devon.
