Location Details
The beautiful hamlet of Stockbridge, one of the smallest in the United Kingdom and renowned for its outstanding fly-fishing, is situated in the center of Test Valley midway between Andover and Romsey. Here you'll find the oldest fishing club in England, Houghton Fishing Club. It is difficult to imagine that the town, which is surrounded by serene hills and sweeping terrain, was previously referred to as a "rotten borough"; nearby Hampshire villages with exquisite churches, old-fashioned country inns, and the spectacular Test Way may also be seen. A poetry trail featuring ten poems, set in stone, metal, and glass, is dispersed throughout the town centre. Poetry enthusiasts will also be impressed to learn that Stockbridge's beauty has inspired countless writers. Accessible from here are the magnificent gardens at Mottisfont Abbey, Houghton Lodge, and Longstock Water Gardens, which are perfect for a family outing.
