Location Details

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.

This is a really comfortable, well furnished and well equipped property on the outskirts of Alnwick. It is part of a barn conversion set around a courtyard with similar properties. The kitchen is well equipped and the little 'cleaning pack' containing dishwasher tablets and washing up items is good as is the tea and coffee pack. The living room has comfortable settees and a big smart TV plus books and videos. Upstairs are 2 bedrooms, a large double with plenty of storage space and a very small single. The bathroom is great with quality fittings and the towels are really soft! The only negative is the garden. We were happy that we had a garden as we looked forward to sitting there for breakfast and in the evening but unfortunately the property is really close to the A1 and the volume of noise from the passing traffic made this impossible. The garden is also really untidy and needs attention, a fast growing hedge of, for example, Cherry Laurel would help to cut down on the traffic noise.
