Mickleton 0.5 miles. A pretty stone and slate-built Grade II listed cottage, situated on the owner's working farm on the edge of the village of Mickleton. Formerly the gardener's cottage, the property has undergone a tasteful and imaginative conversion to provide very comfortable and well-equipped accommodation with character features such as sloping ceilings and timber beams. The cottage is surrounded by spectacular Teesdale countryside and makes a great base for exploring this unspoilt part of the Dales. Note: Garden Cottage adjoins Ref. 558 Westfield Cottage and the properties can be booked together to accommodate a group of up to 9.

Situated in the heart of beautiful Teesdale close to the villages of Romaldkirk and Middleton is the small hamlet of Mickleton. Within Teesdale and just a few miles from the market town of Barnard Castle, this pretty village consists primarily of a cluster of stone houses set along a single street. With a post office, village shop and two pubs, Mickleton has everything a visitor could need. However for more specific amenities, Barnard Castle provides a huge range of shops, restaurants and pubs. Just on the doorstep are The Pennine and Teesdale Ways, providing beautiful walking routes through the local countryside. The River Tees and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are also close by.

A lovely little cottage which was very clean, and the owner was very nice. Had a lovely relaxing week.

A lovely cosy cottage in beautiful surroundings, and there were plenty of walks on the doorstep. We will definitely visit again.

The cottage was very cosy and in a beautiful part of the country.

Nice area, good for walks, cycle rides and pubs. However the Agency's description of the property is very misleading. The property is very small and indescribably dark inside - you will have the (tungsten filament) lights on all the time. Yes, old cottages are dark, but the two windows on this property look out onto a grey 6' wall surmounted but a 20' yew and holly hedge. Early morning sun can't get in because of the trees on the other side of the lane. If you intend cooking anything much more than a tea bag you will find that difficult using the ancient microwave / combination and 2 ring electric hob which seems to get hot all over. If you bring in a takeaway there is no table to use*. If you eat it off your knees, there is not a coffee table to use. If you choose "al fresco", the "garden" is a gravel car park you will share with your neighbour, two wheelie bins and two dead pot plants. Upstairs there are two ill lit steps between the gallery bedroom and the bathroom which are a trip hazard at any time and at 2am in particular. At least gentlemen will know when they get there, because they will crack their head on the beam. Incidentally, there are no bathroom towels which is a bit rich for a 4 tick property. I am no architect but I suspect only the stone shell of the building is period and that everything else is 21st Century. * There is a "breakfast bar" but space is so limited we could not see how it was in any way useful.

Everything walkers with a dog could want from a holiday cottage. A cosy cottage with good quality appliances. The owner was friendly and most helpful. The cottage is in a perfect location, quiet but near enough to lovely walks & good pubs serving super food. The outside garden/courtyard area is fully enclosed so safe to let the dog roam. Certainly ticked all our boxes!

Rated by Mr Henderson reviewed on 15th October 2014

The owner made us feel welcome, the free eggs were really nice. Fishing was wonderful, it was a nice comfortable cottage. Should have booked two weeks instead, only booked one.

Rated by Mrs Callaghan reviewed on 9th July 2014

We were made to feel welcome to Garden Cottage by the very helpful owner. The cottage is delightful and the area is lovely, not busy and not 'touristy'. Bar/Restaurant in village is excellent and would highly recommend. The enclosed garden is great for dogs as you can open the door and be sure they are safe to wander around. Would love to go back as we did enjoy it

Friendly welcome and closed in garden which the dog could roam in safety. No noise which for a working farm was surprising. All villages were fairly close and the scenery fantastic.

Great location, great access to local area. Quiet cottage with excellent fit and finish. Friendly owner. Pet friendly and spotlessly clean. All round had a great stay in a lovely area.

Rated by Mr Whitehead reviewed on 12th September 2012

The location was excellent for walkers with many circular walks within a short distance.

Rated by Mrs Seddon reviewed on 29th August 2011

Setting and scenery, nice and quiet.

Rated by Mr Wilde reviewed on 25th August 2011

A nice and cosy cottage. Welcome-eggs. The cottage is small but enough for 2 adults. It is not easy to find if you are not from Great Britain. We missed the small road two times. But when we reached the "goal" it was, for us, typical English, nice and kind. We had a wonderful week with good weather and not so good weather. And I had never seen so much sheeps in my live.

Rated by Helga reviewed on 17th August 2011

We had a wonderful time in Garden Cottage. It is in a great area and there is a lot to see. Very polite people around.

Lovely, nice tranquil cottage. Friendly owners. Central for the 2 villages of Mickleton and Middleton. Ideal for the dog.

Rated by Mr Lyne reviewed on 28th July 2010

Excellent cottage in an excellent location. Within easy reach of the many attractions; the wild moors and nature forests, waterfalls and reservoirs. Peaceful, clean, little traffic and fantastic!

Rated by Mr York reviewed on 15th July 2010

The owners were absolutely great, very friendly and a pleasure to know. Very quiet and relaxing. I look forward to going again. Even a torch at the doorway in case of power-cuts. It was ALL GREAT.

Rated by Mr Harrison reviewed on 2nd November 2009

There is very little light pollution and therefore excellent for stargazing!

Rated by Mrs Mason reviewed on 30th October 2009

Great for dogs, less than 5 minutes walk to the old railway track where you can walk for miles with no lead needed.

Rated by Mr & Mrs Dawson reviewed on 29th April 2009

One of the best cottages we have been to over the years. Thank you.

A clean and comfortable cottage with friendly helpful owners.

Rated by Mr Webb reviewed on 27th August 2008

The cottage was good value for money and in a beautiful area. Plenty of scenic walks alongside the river and the disused railway and a very peaceful & relaxing location. Friendly & welcoming owners but not intrusive.

Rated by Ms Lawrence reviewed on 14th August 2007

The proximity to local walks from the door of the cottage. The cottage didn't smell of dogs at all which was great! The owners were lovely, and the settings were perfect.

Rated by Miss Barnfather reviewed on 8th January 2007

Good, quiet location.

Rated by Mrs Steel reviewed on 15th August 2006

We went on holiday to chill out and we certainly did that. The weather was brilliant, the cottage was good and we would certainly go back again. We have already recommended the area to our family and friends and have lent out your brochure.

Rated by Mr Plumbridge reviewed on 12th July 2006

Peaceful situation. Good walking right from the door.

Rated by Mr Kirby reviewed on 30th May 2006

Very quiet location. Could walk without use of car. Villages nearby. People very friendly. Superb eating places close by. Wonderful scenery.

Rated by Mr King reviewed on 27th April 2006

Garden cottage offered excellent peace and quiet, as it sits on the outskirts of the nearest village (a short walk away). Teesdale has excellent walks for all walkers, and lots to do if the weather is bad.

Rated by Mr & Mrs Bailey reviewed on 13th April 2006

Immaculate cottage in stunning countryside. Excellent walking from door of the cottage. You can walk along the disused Railway path to Middleton where there is a good local Butchers, shops and cafes. In the other direction is Romaldkirk, with the award winning Rose and Crown. Ideal cottage for a cosy Christmas break.

Rated by Ms Ford reviewed on 19th March 2006

Excellent situation, quiet, and superb walking from the door.

Rated by Mrs Dutton reviewed on 16th December 2004

The surrounding area offered stunning scenery and its was an excellent base for touring and walking. The Red Well Inn at Barnard Castle was excellent for food and there were some really nice Olde-Worlde pubs within driving distance. Dont miss High Force Waterfall, Castle Bolton and Barnard Castle.
