Enjoying a rich royal history is the village of Lyndhurst, known as the capital of the New Forest National Park, frequently visited throughout the centuries by kings and queens thanks to it being established as a royal hunting ground by William the Conqueror. Home to quaint Tudor style buildings and a scattering of welcoming pubs and local shops and boutiques, this lovely settlement has everything you need to enjoy a wonderful stay in Hampshire. One of the village's famous residents is Alice Pleasance Liddell, the inspiration behind Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland', resting in the graveyard of St Michael and All Angels' Church. Walk up to Bolton's Bench, an elevated spot to perch at and take in the views of the landscape, before visiting the New Forest Heritage Centre offering a history into this spectacular national park with interactive exhibits and exhibitions. Walkers can delight in a great choice of walking routes, start out by exploring the area with a circular walk around Lyndhurst, whilst cyclists can embark on a tour of the park on popular routes like Lyndhurst to Brockenhurst, or over to Hatchet Pond, with bikes available to hire from The Woods Cyclery.
