Location Details
Between the magnificent northern lakes of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite, lies the village of Braithwaite. Still retaining much of its traditional appeal, the Coledale Beck runs through the village with whitewashed Lakeland cottages, two village shops and two real ale Inns each brimming with character! Between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw, there really is something for everyone. Visit Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the lake with an open-air theatre, or take a trip around the lake. Lake District Wildlife Park, Dodd Wood, Derwentwater, and Keswick with its wide range of attractions, are also within easy reach.
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

My parents, daughter, and I stayed at Beck Edge for October half term, the cottage was cosy if you lit the fire in the lounge and kitchen. The heating was timed to come on twice a day which wasn't really adequate for the time of year. That aside the cottage was well-equipped. Following the instructions provided by the hosts on cottages.com, we parked one car at the side and one car in front of the property. The parking situation appears to be an issue with the neighbours, who made an angry and aggressive visit late one night and resulted in my car being keyed causing over £400 worth of damage. All we wanted was a quiet uneventful holiday! The police were incredibly sympathetic however having informed the hosts and cottages.com of the incident I have received no acknowledgment back. They have however used the information to amend the parking recommendations on the website!
