The property can sleep up to ten people in five bedrooms comprising two king-size doubles with en-suite facilities, two twins, one with extra daybed (zip/link, can be super-king-size double on request) and one double. The rest of the cottage contains one bathroom, one shower room, an open-plan kitchen with dining area, a sitting room with adjoining playroom and woodburning stove, a games room and a utility. To the outside of the cottage is ample off-road parking and an enclosed garden with lawned areas and patio area with furniture. Within 0.6 miles, you will find a shop and pub. Please note, this property welcomes two well-behaved dogs, but is non-smoking. WiFi, fuel, power, bed linen, and towels are all included in the rent. Set in a beautiful and peaceful place, Lower Mellan Barn is the perfect getaway.

Reviews

No major gripes about the property itself really, my low-scoring review is more about customer appreciation and service. The house is spacious, clean, well-presented and in a lovely, elevated location above Coverack. It has a small garden and balcony but would perhaps benefit from a BBQ to fully appreciate this outdoor space. The rooms are nicely furnished throughout. However, despite fully turning down the thermostats and opening the windows wide, some of the smaller bedrooms did get terribly hot and uncomfortable at night, even though April temperatures outside were thankfully cool. There is a games room and small playroom to keep children/teenagers occupied whilst indoors, but the equipment is getting tired and in need of replacement, particularly given the WIFI is somewhat intermittent and slow to keep them entertained. So apart from of a few minor areas for improvement and hence possibly being a little overpriced, holiday makers should enjoy staying in this property. My major issue was the fact we were descended upon by a team of cleaners who arrived to clean the windows and guttering early on the morning of our departure day, well before our check-out time. They needed access for their electricity supply and then set about climbing up to the guttering and cleaning windows whilst we were taking showers and getting dressed in the morning and whilst we were making breakfast and packing up. On our departure we needed to drive out the yard but it was covered in their vehicles and a network of piping. We spoke to them before leaving and they said it was fine to drive over the pipes, so we did. They then stopped us and aggressively complained that we had cracked two of their pipes (apparently it was fine to drive over the yellow pipes but not the black ones) and demanded we pay for their replacement. We have since contacted the letting agency (Sykes Holiday Cottages) numerous times about this unpleasant matter that occurred during our holiday, but they have failed to take any responsibility or follow up in a satisfactory manner, just stating the owner of the property has failed to respond to their messages. So, it seems someone brought about this unfortunate set of events by arranging/allowing cleaners to arrive early but now they’ve got our money banked they are not interested in good customer service or compensating our losses arising from their poor decisions.
