We stayed here as part of a large family group. Nine adults and three children plus a dog. The property is plenty big enough and very comfortably furnished. The owners are nearby and ready to deal with any problems. Would recommend.

I can honestly say this was a perfect place to stay. We were the first to stay in one of the new cabins and it’s finished fantastically. High standard with a very welcoming reception. Very well positioned for days out to various locations with a peaceful and safe environment for the family. The privacy is well thought out between the lodges and it is all well maintained. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if we visit the area as rarely do you manage to stay in this country in such a wonderful location for such fantastic value.

Came here with 9 friends to celebrate a couple of them turning 50! Wow, what an amazing place to stay. More than enough room, lovely warm & welcoming cottage. Everything you could possibly need is here. The gardens are lovely complete with hot tub & sun loungers. Gemma met us and told us all we needed to know and good places to visit in the area. Would really like to visit for new year but its already book!

It was absolutely perfect, we could not have asked for a nicer property. The bedding and towels were lovely, clean and fresh. The bathrooms and kitchen were spotless. Thank you.

I had originally booked such a large cottage as I'm a foster carer and didn't know for certain how many rooms I would need. We only used four of the six bedrooms in the end, but we were glad of the extra space. The cottage is big enough for 12 people and would represent great value for such a large party. It is a beautiful old thatched cottage set in a lovely garden with a BBQ and seating area, pond, ornamental fountain and another seating area outside the kitchen door. As you approach the cottage you pass some modern, wooden chalet type cottages which seem a bit close. But don't be put off as they can't be seen from Shells cottage and we didn't hear any noise from the neighbour's despite the fact most evenings meant BBQs and hot tubs. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. They supplied tea towels, washing up liquid and dishcloths (all the things I usually forget to pack). The lounge had a lovely reading area around the corner next to huge book shelves covered in books and games. All the bedrooms were made up to a high standard and came complete with white fluffy towels. There was a washing machine and washing line (pegs included) which meant I didn't end up taking cases of dirty clothes home. I had preordered an online grocery order to arrive a few hours after we did which was great as it meant we didn't have to bring lots of food etc. The local takeaway also delivered pizzas, kebabs, burgers etc. The highlight for the two girls was the hot tub. Although we were lucky enough to stay during what may be the only hot week of the summer, they still felt the need to spend as much time as they could in there. Gemma arrived soon after we did to show us how to use it and let us know she was around if we needed anything. She arrived each morning to check the hot tub, but wasn't intrusive at at. As I mentioned, we stayed during the very warm week in July and whilst everyone else seemed to be complaining that it was too warm at night to sleep, we were fine. The thatched roof keep the cottage lovely and cool and offered respite to our poor big dog with her thick coat. One of the bedrooms is in the ground floor. Although the cottage doesn't have level access for a wheel chair, once inside it is fairly suitable for people who can't manage stairs very well. However, there is only a toilet with hand basin downstairs so no access to a bathroom. I would definitely recommend this cottage and we are considering a return trip with friends next year.

The owner was extremely helpful, but not intrusive. The cottage was fantastic, everything had been thought of. We had a lovely relaxing week and would have quite happily stayed put for the whole summer.

An amazing property - no one wanted to leave. We will be returning for sure. Thank you so much to the owner for being so kind and helpful!

Rated by Mrs Sullivan reviewed on 30th December 2015

A year has gone by and the same group of friends enjoyed a great weekend away in this lovely property. Gemma looked after our minor needs very well and we were comfortable and warm with plenty of room for all of us. Our only small gripe is the taps in the kitchen turn on the wrong way and we all had an unexpected shower on a regular basis. Also please note there is no wi-fi at this property.

Rated by Mrsheathershaw reviewed on 16th November 2015

Fantastic, spacious cottage in a great location. Interior is exactly how a cottage like this should be fitted out. Lovely big kitchen, sizeable bedrooms and the lounge room with fireplace is absolutely outstanding. Hot tub is a dream, though being able to set the temperature would be a benefit. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends!

We had a fabulous week at Shells Cottage. The setting is private and the owners leave you to enjoy your stay, but are at the end of the phone if needed. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you need. Tesco deliver, as do the local Indian takeaway, which meant we could all relax - and who couldn't in this lovely cottage.

Rated by Miss Orr reviewed on 3rd October 2015

Shells cottage is lovely and clean and very well equipped. Local takeaway delivers and so do tesco. Not overlooked and lovely garden for the dogs. We were left alone but owners at the end of the phone if needed. A very relaxing place that is perfect for family celebrations or friends get together. I will definitely return.

It was a beautiful house which was easily big enough for all 7 adults and 4 children. The hot tub was a great bonus and it was well maintained. We all said it was great to have such a friendly owner on site every day in case we had any questions. It was located in a very nice area which had easy access to nearby attractions.

Rated by Mrs Cox reviewed on 22nd August 2015

Do not be put off by the holiday lodges as you arrive. Once you get down the hill to Shells cottage it is lovely and private. The garden is large and interesting and includes a little building with a toilet and sun loungers stored in it plus a pond and water feature fountain. At the bottom of the garden is a pergola with two large picnic benches and a barbecue. There is another table outside the back door next to the hot tub. Inside the house the dining / living area is spacious with a lovely wooden floor a big dining table and comfortable sofas books and games. Great kitchen with small old fashioned table. Bedrooms: Upstairs Three double one twin and one bunk. Furnishings a little dated in some rooms but all had good quality white bed linen. All the bedrooms lacked a chair and decent mirrors. The downstairs double bedroom is small with the bed against the wall possibly better suited to one person. There are two bathrooms upstairs one with bath with shower over and another with just a shower. These are better than the picture and the shower room is not really en suite as advertised. Despite minor criticisms this house is great for a family holiday as there is lots to do in the area and the house and garden are really spacious.

Washford was a lovely location for visiting other areas of Somerset and Devon. That said, Shells Cottage was a wonderful place to stay and just relax and make the most of the garden and the opportunity to enjoy a holiday with all the family. We would definitely stay again. Really enjoyed our stay, it has left us with some really happy memories.

The pictures on the website do not do the property justice. The seclusion and privacy of the garden and property were lovely and the hot tub was amazing. The living area was spacious with plenty of comfortable seating.

Although there were some issues with hot water we had a fantastic time and we all loved the cottage. When there was an issue with the water someone came to us immediately to fix. We loved the feel of the place and the location and we would highly recommend Shells Cottage to all friends and family. Thanks again from all of us.

Rated by Mrs Zaoui reviewed on 8th January 2015

We have been going away as a group of 12 adults for 12 years now, always to the same place, which was sadly unavailable due to a landslip. I found this cottage and we were all delighted with what we found. Shells Cottage is very spacious with plenty of room for all. The beds are very comfortable as are the sofas. The kitchen has everything you might need (apart from some large serving spoons) and is a pleasure to cook in. Everywhere was very clean and Lloyd and his wife were very helpful with minor problems. The first step off the decking could do with a luminous strip as 3 of us fell off as it was not well lit. Hot-tub was well used. Thanks very much for a lovely break in great surroundings...the Howler Monkeys calling in the morning was a surreal sound until we realised they were living nearby ! The photos on the web-site do not do the property justice and for info we had a disabled person in our group and he managed very well although the property is not wheelchair friendly.

Rated by Mrs Jones reviewed on 15th November 2014

This place is fabulous the pictures do not do it justice at all. The bedrooms are spacious clean and the place is well equipped. Hot tub was a luxury although do watch your step when getting out and into the kitchen can become a little dangerous. There was a BBQ outside although we didn't have the weather for it! Plenty to do around and if you want to relax this is the place to do it as it's very quiet and serene. Thank you to the owners for such a pleasant place to stay we hope to do it again x Williams family x

A beautiful cottage which was perfect for our holiday. The cottage was fully kitted out with little things which really helped the weekend go smoothly, things like tin foil and cling film had been provided which is a really nice touch as they always get forgotten in the packing. Being able to use the hot tub whenever we liked was also a huge bonus.

The location was ideal for access to major towns and National Trust places, especially the delights of the Tropical Zoo. It also provided a fantastic play ground children. The hamlet of cottages was a treasured hide-away, quiet, restful and safe for children too. Experiencing a hot tub after a day exploring was heaven. Being able to accommodate our family and grandchildren in a spacious home was perfect. We all had space to spread out! The owner was very pleasant and most helpful. The autumn colours on and around the Quantock Hills and Brendon Hills were beautiful, and certainly not to be missed.

The cottage, it is set in a beautiful garden with a hot tub, perfect. I booked the cottage as a gift for my wife's 50th birthday and it proved to be the perfect choice. We can't praise the owner enough for a wonderful stay.

Rated by Mr Lewis reviewed on 15th January 2013

We went for Christmas. It was an ideal property for us with 3 separate but very much amalgamated families, with a very cosy lounge and wood burner. The cottage was well laid out, very warm and welcoming, including a Christmas tree and some other decorations, something to play our Christmas CDs and DVDs on and plenty of space to house all the Christmas presents. The hot tub was a hit with the teenagers and watching the deer from the property in the adjoining field was an added bonus. We were able to order our Turkey from home and pick it up from the butcher in Williton, as recommended by the owner, who could not have been more helpful. We would highly recommend the cottage.
