Reviews

The cottage is beautiful, loved the decor and it had everything we needed, the courtyard was perfect for our two dogs. The bottle of wine and biscuits and milk were an appreciated extra. Good location for exploring. Bit noisy at night with the restaurants but one does get used to it.

My fiancée and I stayed here for 5 days as our anniversary getaway. When we first arrived we loved the cottage and how it was kept in such an old style. There were also mince pies and a bottle of wine left out which was a very nice touch. It was however, very cold when we first entered and the heating had to be left on for the majority of our stay. Over time we also began noticing that the cottage wasn't particularly clean, including cobwebs and pet hair from previous visitors. The kitchen equipment (plates, pans, cutlery, etc) was also dirty and had to be washed before use which is obviously not ideal. This is due to previous visitors but we feel should also be checked by the owner. The shower was also very old looking but did still work to a good standard. The bathroom was very nice but there is a window behind the toilet which completely takes away the privacy of the bathroom; we covered this with a towel as we weren't comfortable using the bathroom otherwise. Since arriving we have also noticed that the photos used to advertise the property aren't up to date. There is only one sofa instead of two and the coffee table is different. The village of Pickering is very sweet and it is really nice to walk around and talk to the lovely people. This cottage is situated on the main road into Pickering, which means that there is constant traffic noise, even through the night. It is also very hidden away, meaning that we did drive past it at first. Due to this, we rang the owner to ask for help, to which he didn't answer and didn't get in touch again, and also didn't welcome us on arrival. This gave us a negative impression of the owner and his services. Overall we did enjoy our stay but wouldn't return or recommend.

Stayed for 4 nights over the new year ,a couple and a husky..met matt on arival was very helpful and friendly..the cottage is set out very well..large kitchen and living room with the bed and bathroom upstairs..parking available but a bit tight not a problem as there is free parking on the road ..the log burner kept the cottage nice and toasty..great location for visiting the coast ,Whitby and Scarborough within 30 min drive..Chinese and Indian takeaways are within a min away and it's 5 min walk into the town...Will be back again

We had a fantastic time at Cherry Tree cottage. The property was close to Scarborough, Whitby, York and the Yorkshire moors. We had a fantastic time using the log burner and relaxing in the cottage. We also loved the fact that we could take our dog with us.

The cottage was located within a few minutes of the town centre. It had an enclosed garden which was excellent for our dog. It had a wood burning stove and central heating which made it very cosy in the evenings. Overall the cottage was excellent value for money.

Fabulous cottage; an ideal base for a holiday in the heart of Pickering. The owner was friendly and informative. Would recommend the cottage as we had a great time.

The cottage is ideally located in Pickering, close to all amenities, shops, pubs and restaurants. The cottage is quirky but very endearing, very warm and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cherry Cottage. We will be recommending it to friends and family and we will return at some point in the future.

Cherry Tree cottage is a lovingly converted coach house and stables. It is very comfortable and well furnished. The shower is excellent and the bed very comfy. We had a great week with our 2 King Charles cavaliers. Visited Whitby, Scarborough, Malton, Helmsley and Eden camp [highly recommended] also had a couple of days enjoying Pickering and the walks. Would certainly recommend this cottage. Please try Capplemans fish and chip shop. Best we've ever had.

We spent a lovely week in Cherry Tree cottage - accompanied by our labrador cross and we were all made to feel extremely welcome by Matt and Lisa on arrival. The cottage is well equipped and has loads of character and charm - including a lovely and very effective fuel burning stove - which we didnt think we would need - but did load up with coal - and it was lovely. We also had the bonus of the outside space which is secure and private and offers a good spot to sit out and have a drink in the sun. The location in Pickering is great - you can walk to several decent pubs - and browse all the shops, cafes etc with ease. We found some lovely walks just a short drive from the property - and also took advantage of the walk around the castle which is only about 10 mins away. We have already booked again for Christmas - and will probably return after that.

Just spent two weeks in CTC. Renovated 6 years ago, the property is as described and is on the A170. I can only re-emphasise what the last reviewer said in April about the noise. Luckily we read the review and came prepared with ear plugs. The owner has been very helpful and spoken to both establishments. Up shot is that the Indians will try to cut down their noisy early hours phone chatter, but the Chinese are allowed to cook a family meal after 11pm. The extractor starts at 12 noon. We have enjoyed a warm welcome in Pickering, which is a beautiful town and very dog friendly. Local countryside is ideal for walking and boasts picture post card views.

The overall unique character and "quirkiness" of this cottage makes it stand out from the crowd. Along with the very helpful owner who gave good advice regarding the local area and amenities. Also, the off road parking made loading and unloading - both luggage and dog - very easy.

Rated by Mrs Pickering reviewed on 19th April 2015

Disappointing stay, bed made from old timber very uncomfortable. Furniture and fittings of poor quality, also very noisy from restaurants either side and garage surrounding cottage. noisy industrial extractor fan until 12.00am. chatting from restaurant staff until early hours outside bedroom window. Outside space would benefit from some improvement . Overall very disappointing

The cottage is lovely. It's romantic with loads of character and in a great location. The owner was really helpful and I couldn't recommend staying here more highly. Our long weekend break went so quickly and I was devastated when we had to leave. Thank you so much.

It was a lovely, cosy cottage, ideal for a couple. The facilities were excellent and everything was as described in the booking details. The log burner was a great addition, the weather was very mild for the time of year, but lighting the log burner after a long day out made the cottage wonderfully cosy.

Despite only giving it an average rating had a good stay at the cottage and it had a good welcoming feel to it.It is close to pickering and makes a good central base for touring.Woodburner was very good and as previous reviews the toilet cistern was a novelty not seen one of these since leaving school a very long time ago.

We stayed in Cherry Tree Cottage for a week at the end of August. Pickering is a lovely town in itself and is the perfect location for exploring North Yorkshire, close enough to York, Whitby and some pretty villages and towns. The cottage is a short walk from the town. Parking in the drive is not for the nervous or spatially unaware, but was mastered easily enough with a bit of confidence. On road parking was easy enough to get as an alternative. The cottage is breathtaking on first view and furnished with everything that we needed for the week. We were a bit disappointed that the weather remained nice enough not to need the wood burner! It was the perfect choice for us and our dog (who was made welcome pretty much everywhere that we went) and we would definitely stay here again if returning "up north".

Rated by HelenandRob reviewed on 6th September 2014

Cherry Tree Cottage is beautiful with the "wow" factor as you walk through the door. Well furnished and interesting features. Great location, close to the town without all the noise. Parking on the road was easy enough if you don't fancy attempting the drive! Pickering is a great base to explore this area, and is a fab town in itself.

This is a cosy little cottage in Pickering. Comfy lounge with woodburner , although we didn't use it,no need because weather was good. Well equipped kitchen. Nice bathroom . Comfy bed once in it, especially if you sleep on the left. We did know this before we booked. There is off-road parking but anything bigger than a Honda Jazz, you will struggle to get in. Not much of a problem you can park in front go gates to unload and there was always plenty of free parking on the street. Plenty of places to eat in the Town. Can recommend both the Indian and the Chinese either side of you and the pub across the road does a tidy pint. Didn't try the food as they had recently taken over and we're not doing food. Turn right out the gate,20yrds, newsagent and then a Costcutter mini market, both good. Cross over road, go left,3-4 mins walk, little CoOp and a very good Chippy. Would stay again.

Cherry tree cottage was a great little find and we will most definately be visiting again. There's everything you need within walking distance and the log burner turns the cottage into a cosy Warm retreat after a day visiting Whitby, Scarborough or the North York moors! Free Wifi was fantastic too, will take the laptop with me next time! :-)

My boyfriend and I have just got back from 3 nights at Cherry Tree Cottage in Pickering having booked through Sykes Cottages and it exceeded our expectations for the money we paid. The cottage was immaculate; very traditional, well equipped and cosy with a log burner, stacks of wood and brilliant central heating which was much needed! It's located just a couple of minutes walk from the town centre so ideal for a stroll out in the evening to the local pubs and restaurants. The owner's instructions were great, there is a key safe to gain access to the cottage which was straightforward and off-the-road parking at the back for a small car. Lovely comfy bed and excellent shower. All in all a fantastic break and I'd definitely recommend this cottage to others looking to explore the North Yorkshire Moors.

Lovely quirky cottage in a great central location.

Rated by Mrs Churchward reviewed on 7th October 2013

This quaint, quirky cottage in Pickering was perfectly placed. Just minutes walk to shops, pubs, restaurants and the train station and yet once inside the wooden gate leading to the cottage it felt very private. It was perfect for taking the dog as once the gate was closed it was safe for her to be outdoors. As a bonus, the car was safely parked yards from the cottage in private. There was a comprehensive instruction booklet in the cottage and also a welcoming bottle of milk in the fridge as well as cookies. All amenities worked very well and we will go again I'm sure.

Rated by Mrs McHarg reviewed on 25th September 2013

Loved the cottage, it was warm, cosy and very inviting, and the wood burner was an extra special treat! The owners were very accommodating and helpful, and went above and beyond to answer any queries and made us very welcome. Pickering is a great starting point for exploring The North York Moors, and the East Coast on foot, and for next time for us definitely by bike also. We loved every minute of it!

We were met by the proprietor who had just finished cleaning. He showed us where the key was an how everything worked. The cottage was clean, tidy, plenty of wood for woodburner and full of character. We loved the mezzanine bedroom and the shower room. Kitchen was very good with plenty of cutlery and crockery. Lots of info on area and a special offer for a meal at the Indian restaurant nearby. Nothing we disliked about it as it was all as described.

Service was excellent, everything was as described. The accommodation was brilliant - roomy, comfortable but practical. Close to amenities but in a peaceful locale. Could spend a long weekend here without a car, lots to do in walking distance. Loads of other places a short drive away, even the coast. Liked the modern facilites mixed with old-style charm, didn't like having to go home!
