Reviews

Just finished a fabulous week at Beckside in the Yorkshire Moors. Lastingham is a beautiful village on the edge of Yorkshire moorland, and Beckside is a brilliant little cottage in which to stay. It’s very compact but has everything you need to make your stay homely and comfortable, with a well equipped if small kitchen. We ate in half the time. The owners, Robyn and Alan, live in the adjacent building. They are very friendly and helpful but never intrusive. There are so many footpaths from Lastingham that you can walk every day without the need to drive. The village pub The Blacksmiths Arms is very friendly, very quaint, has great beers on tap and serves very good pub food. We were lucky to enjoy warm sunny weather, making this a truly fabulous week in the Yorkshire Moors.

What a lovely little cottage it's small & compact but got everything you need, the owner was there if you needed him but left us to our own devises. It was lovely to be able to go back at the end of our day out & sit outside with a drink listening to all the birds & the running water it's so peaceful & relaxing. Lovely quiet little village with sheep roaming around would definitely recommend to anyone (be prepared to feed the birds) & we would love to stay here again

The location is superb, it was away from the hustle and bustle of towns but close enough to be convenient. We were made welcome and felt at home straight away. There was plenty to do and still more to see, if we can we would like to visit again.

We stayed at this cottage over Easter weekend. It's compact but perfectly formed! It's situated in a very lovely village with a great pub which we can highly recommend. Its next to the small stream and it's very peaceful. It was equipped with everything that we needed, tastefully decorated and we had a lovely four days. My husband even left his coat in the cottage and the owners very kindly posted it back – so thank you! We would definitely recommend this property.

Rated by Mrs Visser reviewed on 28th August 2014

Very quiet location but close to the good village pub and many walks.

Rated by Mrs Stacey reviewed on 17th August 2014

No winding down needed here. As soon as I sat on the patio with a glass of wine listening to the sounds of the bubbling stream I started chilling! Although Beckside is quite a small property, it has been tastefully and cleverly planned to give it a spacious feel. It was spotlessly clean with quality furnishings. The only disadvantage we found was that the kitchen area was a little cramped for us, and whilst a microwave combination oven is adequate, we found it a little restrictive for our needs.

Rated by Claireg17 reviewed on 21st June 2014

We liked the location, the peace and quiet and the village itself. The stream by the cottage was an added bonus and the local pub was fab.

This was our 2nd stay in Beckside. we had 1 week last year but booked 3 weeks this time and it was just as great. we did loads of travelling but always felt at home once back in the cottage. the time went too quickly but we have a week next year to look forward to now. Cannot fault anything. as well as all the amenities in the cottage there is also the use of the owners washing machine & dryer. Robyn & Alan are the perfect hosts. Thank you so very much for everything. The village is small & unspolit with friendly residents and the most wonderful pub. No mobile phone signal though anywhere in the village. not a problem for us though.but there is wi fi in the cottage. look forward to our return.

From the moment we were welcomed by the owner to the moment we left this was the perfect get away from it all break. Although Lastingham is in a lovely quiet valley the towns of Whitby, Scarborough and Malton are all within easy reach. Walking on the Moors is accessible from the door-step,wonderful countryside to explore in all seasons as long as you are fully prepared; walking boots, etc. are essential.
