Reviews

We have just returned from a long weekend here (4 adults, 2 3 year olds). We have stayed in a lot of cottages but never one as well equipped as this one! Great location for beaches, would recommend a trip to Newton by the Sea one of the best beaches we’ve visited. It’s just off the A1 so great for Holy Island, Seahouses etc. Nice walk up to the wind turbines and the kids loved seeing the neighbouring calves and alpacas. Will definitely visit again, thanks for an enjoyable stay!

I loved the location of Shepherds Nook, especially for visiting our favourite areas of Northumberland and being so central. My favourite part of the property was the fireplace and wood burning stove, particularly on cold winter nights!

Very comfortable and clean cottage. Home from home. The owner has thought of just about everything to make this a base for your holiday. Perfectly located off the A1 to access Northumberland. Although very close to the A1 the road noise didn't bother us. I would highly recommend this cottage. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to the area.

The owner met us at the cottage and was very friendly and helpful - the cottage was lovely and well equipped and spacious. The location is very close to several places of interest, including Craster with its lovely beach and Dunstonburgh castle. Alnwick is a short drive away and we spent an exhilarating day at Go ape which was not very far away. The owner had left wine and flowers and firewood for us on arrival which was a lovely welcoming touch.

The owners of the cottage made us very welcome with several kind touches including wine, chocolates and fresh flowers. Had even put milk in the fridge and laid the fire ready for lighting. The cottage is only a short drive to the coast and there are many lovely walks close by.

This cottage is a must to visit. Nothing seems to have been too much trouble to make our visit pleasant. A lovely welcome gift, even a telephone call to ask if we had arrived safely. Essentials such as tea, coffee, milk, torches and even doggie bags were included. The cleanliness of the property was very good. Being close to the A1 (no road noise), enabled easy access to the lovely coastline and inland to Coldstream, Wooler and many more places. I would recommend this property.

The owners of this cottage have clearly gone to great lengths to ensure that guests have a comfortable stay and feel welcomed. When we arrived there was milk in the fridge, tea and coffee and other essentials such as dishwasher tablets were provided. As a lovely surprise the owners had also left a thoughtful gift to greet us on our arrival. The location of the cottage is superb for exploring the beautiful coastline and picturesque nearby Alnwick. Really great cottage with everything we could have wished for. The three children loved 'chatting' to the nearby animals every day and the cottage had all the facilities we needed. Excellent extra touches like games and books. Perfect location for everything we wanted to see - just wish we could have stayed longer - next time!

We had a lovely stay at this cottage. It was well equipped, very well presented, warm and cosy. The surrounding countryside and beaches are stunning. The only slight thing we were not aware of was the proximity to the A!. Although that was great for travelling around the area, it was rather noisy from about 6am onwards with all the commuter and work traffic. It did not spoil our holiday but we thought we ought to have been made aware of this. We would definitely book with Sykes again though if this is the standard of their cottages.

Rated by Miss Atkinson reviewed on 28th September 2009

Excellent cottage in great location. Very close to good road link but still quiet. Children loved all the animals in surrounding fields. Lots to see and do in the area - wish we had longer but we hope to return very soon. Nice to have games and books provided for a range of ages. DVD provided but too busy to use it!

It was lovely to stay in a welcoming and comfortable cottage that had everything we need. Anyone with small children needs everything to hand if their holiday is to be relaxing - we couldn't have asked for more. Northumberland is beautiful and stimulating for all of the family whatever the age. Looking forward to returning already.
