Reviews

The decor was of the highest standard and was a very comfortable cottage. Beware arriving when it's dark and wet though! No light left on and had to climb slippery wet steps in the pitch dark. Also difficult to locate 'green' shed in the dark where the key was located. One match left out with which to light a fire. Other than that, it was a delightful place.

A really lovely English country cottage in a nice quiet village which is an ideal location for exploring the Lake District National Park. The accommodation was very clean, with really nice traditional cottage d?cor and a peaceful patio area upon which to sit and relax while enjoying the colourful private garden. This was our first visit to this property, but as regular visitors to the Lakes I am certain this will become our regular retreat in future. Must also mention that we only booked the accommodation the day before arrival and there were no problems in the property being ready.

The cottage was comfortable, cosy in a good location to see The Lakes. We particularly enjoyed the garden and the open fire. We would recommend and would visit again.

Rated by Mr O'brien reviewed on 2nd July 2016

An excellent cottage which was well furnished and equipped with everything we needed for a perfect holiday. It was in a quiet location in Lindale which is an attractive village with lovely countryside all around. Lots of places to visit nearby and we also had good weather in spite of the forecasts! We would certainly recommend this as an ideal place for a holiday.

2 Beacon High was homely and relaxing. The weather was amazing so we made use of the outside area. The location was just right and we could to visit local areas with ease.

Rated by Ms Matthews reviewed on 5th June 2016

This lovely cottage is tastefully furnished and decorated - even better than it looks in the photos. It is very well equipped and has good central heating and an open fire if required. There is one shop in the village and the Royal Oak at the top of the village serves very good food. Grange over Sands is only a few minutes away for more shops and Carmel is about 10 minutes away and has several good restaurants. The cottage had good wifi but we could not get any signal for our O2 mobile and this was a common problem in the whole area. There are a few steps between the parking area and the cottage so not suitable for disabled/frail.

The house was very comfortable and cosy and we loved it. We felt very at home and everything seemed to have been thought of that you could need. We were well situated for trips to Lakes Coniston and Windermere and enjoyed a walk round Tarn Hows. It is a lovely cottage to stay in and we will go for longer next time.

The house was very comfortable and cosy and we loved it. We felt very at home and everything seemed to have been thought of that you could need. The weather was just starting to get a bit colder and the central heating meant the house was lovely and warm. We catered for ourselves and had all the kitchen equipment we needed. We slept well as the house is in a quiet location. My husband was very pleased with the Smart TV and wifi. We were well situated for trips to Lakes Coniston and Windermere and enjoyed a walk round Tarn Hows. Kendal is certainly worth a visit. We also went to Sizergh Castle and Furness Abbey. We were there for a short break but wished we had booked for longer. It is a lovely cottage to stay in and we will go for longer next time.

A lovely house with a beautiful garden in a peaceful location. In a good location for the South Lakes. The Smart TV was useful. Would recommend a visit to Cartmel which was a very short drive away.

Rated by Mrs Rogers reviewed on 24th May 2015

The cottage was perfect for our needs; quiet, off the main road, cosy and adequately equipped for two people. We like staying at cottages where the key is in a key safe, as it allows flexibility of arrival time. The Smart TV was a bonus as we had mixed weather so spent more time indoors than we would normally do, especially at this time of year the Lake District is more inclined to be wet. There is a pub in a short walk, serving excellent food. We could go walking from the cottage, but also had places to go which were only a short car ride away or by train.

Rated by Mr Berrisford reviewed on 14th March 2015

We arrived on a cold & wet evening to a warm, welcoming cottage. The kitchen was very well equipped and the information book was helpful. Our 2 Boys particularly liked their bedroom with lovely views and of course the WiFi for their games. The lounge was lovely and we enjoyed using the open fire in the evenings.

Rated by Mrs Pearson reviewed on 21st February 2015

I loved the views from the kitchen and bedrooms and the quiet and darkness at night - absence of street lights and traffic noise is a treat for a townie like me. The location is good for easy access to lots of places. Overall, a lovely cottage.

Cottage very comfortable and really enjoyed 'chilling out' there. Enjoyed visiting Grange-over-Sands and walking along the promenade. Also enjoyed visiting Cartmel and the Lakeland Motor Museum. It was good to have Wifi available.

Rated by Ms Hansdorfer reviewed on 23rd November 2014

Charming holiday cottage on 2 levels, well equipped and very comfortable. Located in Lindale which is a small village with two pubs (only one serving food when we visited) and a PO/General Store. However, Grange-Over-Sands is only 5 mins away and offers a number of good shops, cafes and restaurants. A great base for exploring the Lakes as short trips take you to all of the main locations.

Rated by TonyMDunbar reviewed on 29th October 2014

Warm, welcoming and comfortable well equipped but couldn't find a hairdryer but that was a very small thing. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here the area has some lively walks and is a good starting point for visiting the lakes even by public transport.

A very peaceful, homely cottage with light airy rooms. Well located for access to the main tourist attractions of The Lakes, or those quieter spots more off the beaten track. Good pub (Royal Oak) with excellent food at the top of the village. Railway station at Grange is handy for accessing walks at Silverdale and Arnside or beyond.

Lovely cosy cottage. Beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. We stayed with our 3 year old and 6 month old. The bedroom layout was perfect so we could have the baby in another room but still close enough (and there was space for a travel cot in our room if we'd wanted). Had to call the owners to ask a question and they were so friendly and helpful. Good location for exploring the rest of the lake district. The lindale inn does very good food and the owners were friendly and helpful. We'd definitely stay here again another year.

Rated by Ms Robinson reviewed on 24th September 2012

The cottage nicely decorated, especially kitchen and main bathroom and is very clean throughout. We found that it was quite central. Local pub is only a couple of minutes walk as mentioned, as was the village shop (I'm normally sceptical about these types of claims).

Rated by Mr Beatty reviewed on 3rd September 2012

First time using Sykes and will certainloy be returning to them for another break. No problems and received regular email updates with driving directions and entrance instructions. The cottage was easily found with either some very simple directions supplied or by Sat Nav. We found this cottage nice and centrally located for our weeks holiday and proved to be a good base for us and what we chose to do. It's only a short drive to the Windermere and Kendal for example. Well worth the drive to Ulverstone via the Kirk Stone Pass to Ullswater Lake and a cruise on there. Even closer is Grange over Sands a nice quaint town, shame there was no beach there though. Cottage has a nice blend of old v new decoration with a very nicely finished kitchen and main bathroom whilst the rest of the cottage had more rustic feel to it. Only grumble about the cottage we had was the bed / matress in the main bedroom. I Personally feel that these could do with being replaced as both my wife and I found this very uncomfortable which stopped us from giving an excellant review for comfort. Worth noting for members of the National Trust that you will get free car parking in a number of car parks which could work out saving a small fortune over the time of a holiday in the Lake District

Very nice place and will use it again. Went well for the two kids and they were so excited and loved the place.

Rated by Mr Bilbe reviewed on 31st August 2010

The cottage was accessed by a steep stepped garden path, fortunately our party of three septuagenarians was able to use this. The garden and outside siting area were delightful. The parking space was rather cramped when the occupant of the other cottage was in residence.Information about the location and distance from the nearest large stores was not supplied. The use of upstairs space was imaginative. The beds were superb. The shower room off the kitchen was useful but not convenient. There was a motley collection of crockery which served its purpose but was not in the least elegant. I think the property suffers from having non resident owners who live in Harrogate. The local caretaker was not aware that the tap assembly in the bathroom needed attention until I phoned him.A note explaining damage to a garden seat by the previous tenant had been ignored., I drew his attention to this. Perhaps a log book for written suggestions on maintenance needs would be the answer. Lindale is well placed for visiting the South Lakes and we throughly enjoyed our stay.
