Gorgeous, totally private, cottage in a secluded but not too remote location. Everything that you need is provided. A lot of love and care has clearly been put into it by Colin and Helen, the owners. Great array of wild life there, virtually every type of garden bird you could name visit the feeders at the back, including a pair of great spotted woodpeckers and a stoat who pops up now and then at the back. A barn owl in the late evening plus several bats. A pay phone is provided, which is a valuable bonus when there's no cell coverage (as invariably there isn't wherever we go!). We were lucky with the weather so only used the living room burner on our last two nights. It is by far the best and easiest to light and use burner that we've ever had, and we've had loads. I'd love to come back when it's cold so that we can put both on! The best "welcome pack" we've ever had. You don't need to do any shopping before you arrive. Finally, re dog. A lot of cottages state "enclosed garden" and when you arrive it's not exactly enclosed for a dog. This one really is secure. We could relax and let our dog wander around the garden, which makes a huge difference. 100% recommended.

Old Hall Cottage is a wonderful cottage, in a lovely location as a place to 'retreat' to in itself or as a base for touring around the Kielder/ Northumberland area. Such a peaceful spot. Really well equipped, you're made to feel special and it is very much a home away from home. Will definitely go back and would recommend to others.

The wood burner in the living room made the cottage so cosy and lovely to return to after a day out walking.

Old Hall Cottage is a fantastic property in a beautiful location. Fantastic wood burner and comfy beds. Particularly good for bird watchers and star gazers. Definitely would recommend this property if you want some relaxation.

Just returned from a short stay at this beautiful cottage with my girlfriends. Ideally situated for those of us who love peace and quiet. Thanks for the welcome pack including wine, bread, scones and jam - all delicious and much appreciated. The property is very well furnished and the beds are so comfortable a good night's sleep was had by all. Highlights are the wonderful wood burning stove in the living room, the variety of birds that visit the feeding stations in the back garden (be prepared to top the feeders up I've never known such greedy birds!) and the amazing display of stars in the dark skies The cottage provides a telescope! Although the weather was very windy and we had snow we managed a walk across the kielder reservoir dam before returning to hot baths and a good afternoon playing cards and listening to music in the cosy living g room A fantastic cottage in wonderful location I hope to return soon

The cottage was warm when we arrived and looked very welcoming. The cottage is very well-equipped and comfortable and even though the torrential rain wasn't ideal holiday weather, we felt we were in a home away from home and were cosy and relaxed indoors. We especially loved watching the birds outside the kitchen window - a great distraction from the tedium of washing up. Overall we were very pleased with the presentation and facilities of the cottage, and would certainly stay there again.

Another great stay in this fantastic cottage. Everything catered for and the cottage was lovely and warm when we turned up, the log burner was already up and running. Thanks again to the very friendly owners.

Fabulous cottage on a very quiet lane and very well equipped. It was very rural, so peaceful and quiet which is exactly what we wanted.

Rated by Mr Avery reviewed on 7th August 2015

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful cottage with our dog in June, and found it to be clean and comfortable with everything you could possibly need (and more) supplied. On arrival we were delighted to find a lovely goody pack for us and Willow, which was a great treat after a long drive. Very helpful too was the welcome pack booklet, full of clear detail on the where and how of appliances etc in the cottage. The cottage itself is in a wonderfully rural location and kept/ furnished to a high standard; very quiet and relaxing, which is just what we want from a holiday home. All you can hear at night are the sheep. All in all, a proper home from home with very comfortable furniture - perfect for relaxing in the evening and for a great night's sleep. The kitchen is well stocked with crockery, cutlery and all the utensils needed to cope with the sort of cooking we do on holiday. The barbecue was put to use on nice evenings too. As the cottage is within the area of the dark sky reserve, the provision of a telescope is a nice touch. If that is what attracts you to the area I recommend not visiting at midsummer, as it barely seemed to get dark most nights. Our mistake - nothing to do with the property. I can't really find anything negative to say about Old Hall Cottage! One of the highlights of our holiday was the wildlife that visited the garden, where bird feeders are hung. Top-ups are available to buy and we did this on a few occasions as the pleasure gained from watching the birds made it well worth it. My husband now knows a few more species than he did, and was chuffed to have spotted the very brief visit from a woodpecker. Several times a mouse came to have a nibble on the peanuts. On the last day we even saw a stoat darting about on the garden wall. If you want the bright lights, this cottage is not for you. If you want a rural retreat in beautiful unspoiled countryside, go for it. We certainly hope to return to view the dark sky at some time in the future.

Loved the cottage - it was cosy, quiet and just perfect for a great chill out holiday. There was plenty of walking on doorstep and yet near enough for visiting the coast and castles - Kielder Forest is a must for walkers and cyclist - cannot wait to go back.

A beautiful, well-appointed cottage in a stunning countryside setting. Far enough away to 'get away from it all' but equipped with everything you'll need. Telescope provided for star gazing, which is a must in a dark sky park. Homely touches and generous welcome pack, comfortable beds and well stocked kitchen. An abundance of garden birds and other wildlife on the doorstep of the beauty of Northumberland. Would love to stay again!

Having stayed in many holiday cottages over the years, I can confidently say this is one of the best. Well equipped, clean and comfortable. It provided us with a fantastic base to discover the local area, and was also dog friendly! I would definitely recommend this property.

Excellent stay at this wonderful cottage. From the log burners to the fantastic garden for night photography of the stars. The sofas comfy for falling into after a day of site seeing. Peaceful and quiet internet excellent. Everything that was needed was there. Would stay again. Two of us stayed, but could comfortably accommadate 5. Although we took no pets there was no sign or smell that would make you think any animals has stayed there. If you do book and stay here...... Take some extra bird feed.... The feeders in the garden are amazing to stand and watch the birds feeding..... But they are very greedy and needed topping up daily, either that or they immediately had us pegged as a soft touch.

Rated by stellajnr reviewed on 31st October 2014

An absolutely beautiful cottage in a stunning location. The bird feeders outside the kitchen window which was fully stocked provided us with great entertainment when washing up. The telescope provided for the dark sky's with full instructions and what to look for was excellent.

The warm, generous welcome when we arrived: lights on and treats in the kitchen. Telescope provided in case we had a starry night. Everything we needed was there. The surroundings are delightful and we enjoyed watching the birds on the feeders outside the kitchen window. We had a very good meal at the Pheasant Inn - a short drive away. We're thinking of booking again for next year.

A wonderful, warm and cosy cottage in beautiful countryside. The owners have paid great attention to the small details, providing all the essentials that you need but don't particularly want to buy for a short holiday. The welcome pack for people and dogs was great.

The time and trouble that had been taken to make us feel welcome at the cottage was very much appreciated - it gave us a wonderful start to a lovely holiday. Even our dog was catered for - that in itself was amazing! This was the best holiday cottage we have stayed in.

This is the first time that we have stopped in a cottage and I will be amazed if anywhere can top this one. Nice and spacious with local amenities only a short drive away. There are lots of walks and places to visit. Everyone we met in the areas around the cottage and villages were very friendly. We are already looking to book again.

Rated by Mr Macmillan reviewed on 2nd March 2014

Wonderful welcome - the lights were on, the fire lit, as we arrived late at night with small children this made it magical! The cottage was spotlessly clean and had lots and lots of little extras such as soap, washing up liquid and shampoo which made it very special.

A lovely effort by the owners to make us feel welcome, the cottage was warm and well lit when we arrived. We will definitely be returning, cannot wait. We booked the cottage as we had plans for Kielder Winter Wonderland, it was about a 15 minute drive away; ideal location. The property is large, but still cosy. Really enjoyed it, as did our children, we cannot wait to return. I imagine it would be lovely in the summer to.
