Accommodation Details

All ground floor. One double bedroom. Bathroom with a walk-in shower, basin and WC. Small fitted kitchen with adjoining room containing fridge/freezer. Sitting room with dining area and patio doors leading to garden.

A charming single-storey, self-contained annexe, tucked away to the rear of the owner's attractive home in a quiet lane in the village of Henstridge. Converted from a former stable, Frodos is well furnished throughout and offers comfortable, well-equipped holiday accommodation. The property boasts a delightful large patio area, perfect for dining alfresco, with shared use of a lovely mature three quarter acre garden. Fine countryside walks can be enjoyed nearby and the cottage provides a marvellous centre for touring, with a host of National Trust properties such as Stourhead House and Gardens and Montacute House only a short drive away. With Shaftesbury, Salisbury, Bath and the Dorset coast also easily accessible, this is a great base for exploring this beautiful area.

Henstridge lies in the extreme south of Somerset and it's parish is separated from Dorset by Landshire Lane. Its name comes from the Olde English word 'henst', meaning 'horses' and translates as: "the ridge where stallions are kept". The ridge is the narrow strip of Jurassic limestone that runs through Henstridge and the nearby villages of Yenston and Whitechurch. Henstridge has an attractive church, which was consecrated in 1332. Unusually it has four altars. The porch was added in the 14th Century and the north aisle was built in the 15th Century. Nearby, you can explore a number of properties in the care of the National Trust, such as Stourhead House and Gardens and the historic town of Shaftesbury. Britain's most famous stone circle, Stone Henge, is only a short drive away and the Dorset coast offers the best of coastline and countryside.

Reviews

Henstridge is convenient for touring some beautiful English countryside. We stayed over Christmas, and the owners of this nicely appointed property had decorated it for the season and added some other little details. Being at the rear of the owners' house ensures an absence of noise, and the heating works well.

The cottage was very clean and tidy, the hosts were friendly, but did not interfere. Being Easter, they had even left us a card and chocolate Easter Bunny! The village of Henstridge is just off the beaten track, but within easy reach of several historic and interesting market towns, plus as much beautiful countryside as you could wish for!

Rated by mr Lippitt reviewed on 29th March 2015

Although in the middle of a village, it was extremely quiet. The garden was huge and even in winter attractive and child friendly – in summer it must be beautiful. The cottage was well laid out, the bed comfortable and the kitchen, while small, was well equipped. We were made to feel welcome and we shall certainly be back.

Rated by Mr Evershed reviewed on 2nd March 2015

Our host was very friendly and happy for us to share her large patio and garden. She was also kind enough to lend us extra cutlery when we had friends over for a barbecue. A very enjoyable holiday in a good location for exploring Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. Frodo's is small but had everything we needed. The only downside was the village itself which didn't have a lot to offer.
