Just got back from a week away in this beautiful little cottage. Perfect quiet location to get away from it all. Cottage was clean and functional, living room seating a little uncomfortable for enjoying a night in though, but lovely and cosy otherwise. Other than taking your own towels the cottage is very well equipped for everything you need. Great location to go for days out and great walks with the dog. However, do be careful with the online penselwood walks, lacking in detail which you only discover once you're out there, take your phone for GPS. Lovely garden area across the lane for enjoying your morning cup of tea or an evening tipple. Farm fresh eggs, a small jug of milk and a vase of garden flowers were a lovely welcome.

Having a holiday on a working farm is excellent for small children, and our son really enjoyed being introduced to the animals by the friendly owners of the property. The Old Bull Stall is also perfectly situated for visiting various sites of interest in the local area.

A beautiful cottage in a lovely location. It was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. It is close to Wincanton which has large supermarkets. There are lovely walks in the local area and it is close to lots of great attractions. We were really sad to leave.

Should be a higher star grade, it was amazing. It is such a beautiful place to be, it's a life I dream of.

Rated by Miss Hayes reviewed on 3rd May 2016

Very peaceful location. Cute and cosy little cottage with adequate supplies (it is made clear you need to bring your own towels). Small and uncomfortable sofa and chairs with wooden railings hard to relax on. Wifi advertised but signal literally non-existent and no mobile phone signal either so awkward if you do need to keep in touch. Ideal for a couple of walkers looking to get away from it all. Not so good for dog owners due to 'garden' being overgrown field across muddy lane so a mission to let dog out every time.

The Old Bull Stall is a lovely place for a relaxing holiday, but is also a good base for visiting places in Somerset and surrounding counties. It is ideally located for walking and the cottage is actually part of the farm. The owners are very friendly and helpful, but not intrusive, and the farm eggs are delicious!

Rated by Mrs Smith reviewed on 24th August 2014

The cottage was in a lovely peaceful setting. The owners were very accommodating and our two children loved seeing the animals on the farm especially bottle feeding the calf. It was a fantastic location for sightseeing but there was also the added bonus of having so many places to walk surrounding the farm.

Rated by Mrs Harrington reviewed on 14th April 2014

We received a warm welcome from the owners. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. The location was perfect for us: quiet, pretty and had plenty of excellent walks for us and our dog. To say it has a garden is misrepresentation (see the given title above). However we didn't need one and it was perfect for our needs. The only drawbacks were that the gas wood burner was broken (awaiting a part) but we were still warm enough from heaters and the tv remote had been lost so there was some manual adjustments to be made (good exercise though!)

The hosts were great. Loved being on a farm. Great rural atmosphere and central to Bath and Stonehenge.

Rated by Mrs Outerbridge reviewed on 5th November 2013

The cottage is located on a working farm in what initially feels like a remote hamlet of Pen Selwood but infact is close to all Major attractions: Glastonbury, Stonehenge, Bath, Wells, Castle Cary, Cheddar Gorge ect ect. The cottage is very cosy with all necessary amenities and the owners were friendly and in obtrusive. My wife is a devout animal lover and she took great pleasure in petting the horses, donkey, cats, farm dog Alfie and seeing the sheep, ducks and geese. A very relaxing and pleasurable stay - will certainly come again.

A lovely welcome tray (+eggs!) and flowers. Next door to owners, very friendly and who were exceedingly helpful to us as we suffered a family bereavement when we were there. The cottage was clean and very comfortable, as were the beds. Beautiful and very quiet area, lovely retreat, lots of country walks from the cottage. Near small towns and a303 if you wanted to go further afield. Best thing was beauty of countryside and cottage setting. least liked was low mobile phone signal!

Great location, quiet but not to far from anywhere.. we have already booked again for 2014.

Rated by Mr Wright reviewed on 18th August 2013

Loved the very nice owners. They tried to involve the children and us into the living on a farm by talking and explaining how it's works and to join them in their world. We've loved it. Further, we enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, the animals and the peaceful environment.

The position, both in the countryside and on the farmyard was great. The owners went out of their way in terms of friendliness. The kitchen worked, the water was hot, and wi-fi was useful.

The owners were fantastic. They made us feel very welcome and our children loved the fact that they were made to feel involved at Pear Ash Farm - two budding young farmers as a result!

A very well appointed cottage in a lovely rural location. All facilities included, such as WiFi access and a real flame fire. The owners were very friendly, but not intrusive. Well located just a short drive from easy transport links to Bath, Glastonbury and Wells.

Lovely, remote, rural location. The owners were very friendly and approachable, but not at all intrusive. It was a really genuine working farm. Lots of animals around the farmyard that would appeal to children. It was a lovely comfortable cottage well appointed.

What a delightful converted Bull stall we stayed in. Set in the tiny village of Penselwood in a peaceful rural location with next to no traffic and plenty of country walks right outside the front door. The proprietors were very welcoming and kind. They even presented us with half a dozen freshly laid eggs as a welcome gift. The property was clean with all amenities supplied. No complaints whatsoever with the cottage. Being a working farm we were often encouraged to help out and we were allowed the run of the farm. Our daughter particularly enjoyed fussing over all the animals. Stacking bales of hay last thing in the day was pretty exhausting but enjoyable at the same time. And as for herding the sheep. They tend to have a mind of their own. I'm trying very hard to think of what we didn't like about the Bull Stall. Cannot think of one thing :)

Rated by Mr Bolam reviewed on 8th August 2009

We had a wonderful holiday with the owners on their glorious farm. Not only was it the quietest and at night time the darkest location we have ever stayed at, but we also had the activities of the farm animals as an interest. We used this as a base to visit other sites in Southern England which was ideal with the good major road connections close to the farm, as well as reasonable access to shops to get our supplies. We loved the stay and will always have fond memories of this visit. Mike,Joan and Christopher Marsh
