Over four floors. Four bedrooms: 1 x ground floor king-size double with sitting area & en-suite double shower, basin & WC, on far side of arch. 1 x 1st floor twin, 1 x 2nd floor twin, 1 x 3rd floor king-size double. Bathroom with roll-top bath, separate double shower, basin & WC. Spacious kitchen with large dining table, leading upstairs to the 1st floor main sitting room. 2nd sitting room/games room on 1st floor. Each sitting room has a balcony overlooking courtyard.

A fabulous, former stable block conversion, built using two coach houses and a four-storey central tower, situated around a sympathetically renovated courtyard, in the sleepy Borders town of Coldstream. Built in the late 1700s on the rural outskirts of the Hirsel Estate, this spacious conversion beautifully combines modern living with original character to offer four bedrooms, and two sitting rooms, each with a balcony offering lovely views over the courtyard. Take a riverside walk, fish on the famous River Tweed or visit Coldstream's great 18-hole golf course. With Alnwick and Berwick-upon-Tweed close by, this is an ideal property, any time of year.

The pretty town of Coldstream sits on the northern bank of the river Tweed and is famous as the home of the Coldstream Guards. As a former rival to Gretna Green, this charming little town performed its fair share of illicit marriages. With a museum dedicated to its famous guards, a wide variety of shops and facilities for horse riding, golfing and fishing nearby, this historic settlement has something for everyone to do. The picturesque estate of The Hirsel is set to the west of the town and was once home to former Prime Minister, Alec Douglas. The estate is now a great spot for bird watching and many species choose to nest there. The Scottish borders and the rest of Northumberland are all within easy driving distance, making this a great location for people looking to explore the wider area.

Reviews

Just spent a week at the carriage House in Coldstream and it was superb! Very generous accommodation laid out over four floors but even those with restricted mobility can stay in the ground floor en suite bedroom. A real home from home! Everything we needed and more and the beds were super comfy. Good location, we managed to visit Alnwick Gardens, Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses, East Links Farm Park and even a local leisure centre on the one rainy day we had. Gorgeous walks around coldstream too, property is right across the road from the Hirsel Estate. Owner is on hand if needed and generous welcome basket was much appreciated! Would definitely recommend a visit to the Carriage House, loved every minute and we were sad to leave our little castle!

Brilliant stay last week. Clean, tidy, comfortable beds, property large enough for 7 of us not to be on top of us all the time. The play room was a great addition for people with children! They left us a welcome basket with essentials in which was a lovely surprise! We sat on the balcony on the first night drinking prosecco in the evening sun. Location perfect both in terms of nearby walkable facilities and for visiting Scotland and Northumberland. The local Indian is highly recommended! Highly recommended!

We loved Carriage House! It was a very unique property in a perfect location! The property was very clean and well equipped. We would love to stay here again on our next trip to Europe.

Rated by Mowthorpe reviewed on 24th June 2015

The property is large enough and interesting enough to spend the entire day indoors when it is wet and windy out.

Rated by Mrs Keppie reviewed on 3rd October 2014

One of our best family holidays in years! The house was absolutely ideal with a fantastic kitchen and beautiful bedrooms. Even though the centre of Coldstream is less than a five minute walk away, the house is peaceful and relaxing. The welcome basket is a wonderful touch and the information folder is extremely detailed and helpful. We hope to stay here again in the not too distant future!

An impressive, characterful and unusual property in a good location, close to beautiful countryside and plenty of interesting places to visit. Plenty of space for everyone to spread out and well equipped for families.

Rated by Mrs Mcmanus reviewed on 7th August 2014

A fabulous location and different style property, plenty of space for the family, close to local shops and main road access to tourist spots. The games room was used a lot and loved by the kids, having the two rooms gave space for people to take some quiet time if they wanted. The kitchen table was a great size and lent itself as a games table in the evenings.

Black mould in kitchen / bathroom ants running around all over cobwebs everywhere bottom half of shower missing bathroom mat full of other peoples hairs , other people hairs between quilt and cover after walking around your socks were covered in hair dust everywhere rust on radiators . The in house booklet advices us we had to strip the beds sweep all floors and mop all floors and Hoover . All the furniture was all different from the 1960-1980 just cheap like a hostel We left after 3 days It was booked through the other couple we went with and because we are not the lead name on the booking paperwork we are not. Allowed to make a complaint Mr & Mrs Craig , Lincolnshire

The character of the property was very appealing and very quirky, the flag on the top of the property was great to see on the drive up to the property and on our walks! The kitchen was great for 8 guests and the large table was well used. The main bathroom had a lovely large freestanding bath and separate shower. The welcome pack was a lovely touch and gratefully received as well as the chocolates in each bedroom.

The house was fabulous. Everything was like a first class hotel and we have never had such a well stocked kitchen. This property deserves a five star rating. The owners were so helpful and friendly, as was the cleaner, who happened to originate from our part of the country. We cannot recommend this property highly enough.

I have taken the time to share this review anywhere i can. We had a superb time in this stunning property. My family and i had a wonderful Christmas stay here. The massive welcome pack, the chocolate santas in every room, the fully christmas decorated living room, It was just stunning. The rooms were all individual and beautifully decorated. We had to turn the heat down, throughout the house, even though it was freezing outside. The grounds and walks right outside our door, were incredible. Strolling down to the banks of the Tweed on Christmas morning, covered in snow was just breathtaking. We will be booking up again soon. Thankyou so much Vicky for allowing us to have a wonderful Christmas at your gorgeous house, the memories will stay with us forever.

We had a great week in Coldstream, the week of Flodden Field celebrations including torchlit procession and fireworks, lots of pipers, etc. Walks in the Hirsel Estate very calming and great trips around local towns and to the coast. A relatively easy drive to Edinburgh on our one sunny day. Facilities and layout very handy, especially for us - family of four with single friend who didn't need to be involved in all the squalor of family life. Rain among the most torrential we've ever seen and the river flooded at the end of the drive - all good fun as long as you don't get too hung up about it.

The house was a very good base for exploring the area and there was plenty of room for both our families to hang out. The large kitchen was something we all liked and there was plenty of room for cooking big family meals.
