The Wain House, Westhope

Situated in a lovely courtyard setting on the owner's 250-acre farm, this property is one of four quality, brick-built barn conversions. Formerly part of a 19th Century stable block, this lovely little cottage has been sympathetically renovated and furnished to a high standard. Boasting exposed beams and trusses throughout, the property successfully blends period features with modern convenience. This cottage also comes with use of a lovely patio garden with country views, ideal for al fresco dining.

Location Details

Standing amidst rolling farmland in the scenic Hope Valley, the scattered village of Westhope is situated at the southern foot of the famous Wenlock Edge. The area is packed with lovely walks, rambling routes and cycle trails down local paths and bridleways. Many of Shropshire's main attractions are within easy driving distance such as Church Stretton - known as 'Little Switzerland' to the locals - which offers a selection of antique shops and tea rooms and is surrounded by the beautiful Long Mynd Hills. The Acton Scott Historic Working Farm and the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre are also worth visiting, as is the Ironbridge World Heritage Site and the medieval towns of Shrewsbury and Ludlow - the latter of which boasts four Michelin starred restaurants. With so much to do in the local area, everyone is sure to find something they enjoy.

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Lovely weeks stay in this cottage, nicely decorated and containing all you need for a great stay. Games room and private hot tub all included. Views over to fields and Alpacas. Well worth a visit.

Upon arrival there is a beautiful cake, we had the Tea Loaf - which we would love the recipe for as it was so yummy! Wine and Choc also!! Lovely touch. Waiting for my nephew was a high chair and travel cot all set up ready. There was nothing we needed to do but relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounding. Walking amongst the countryside, seeing the cows and the wonderful golden fields of wheat was an absolute pleasure. Our Beagle Louie was in his element! This is our second visit as we love it so much we come prepared as shops are a drive away, we always stock up before we go as the cooking equipment is plentiful - everything you could need to cook any meal is readily available! Even down to the supply of coal, wood and fire lighters for the BBQ.. (only one thing we couldn't find a pen for the visitors book - only reason we didn't sign and send thanks) We hope to return with a larger group to try out one of the other Barn Conversions. Thanks again to Marianne and her team. xx

Booked for a long weekend to get out walking and a bit of relaxation. Arrived to homemade cake and chocolate to get us started. Had a great time, very quiet, lots to do nearby. Knowledgeable host and ideas folder with the property. Games room attached is basic but enjoyable. Hot tub is well maintained and house is clean and comfortable. Dog friendly with small enclosed area attached to house.

If you are looking for a venue for a large family celebration, then look no further! This cottage along with the other 4 are all finished beautifully and packed with character. The provisions in the kitchen were excellent and the home made cake and wine were a lovely special touch! The games barn or the 'party room' as we called it - is where all 38 of us joined together in the evenings to celebrate my 40th birthday, which was ideal and then the hot tubs were the cherry on the cake. Set in an idyllic location surrounded by countryside and has lots of lovely walks to blow the cobwebs away! The owner, marianne was so helpful throughout the lead up to the weekend- answering all the little questions I had. I can't recommend this place enough - don't think twice about booking your break here.. you won't be disappointed.

We stayed here with Bert our Border Terrrier for a week. The house is lovely, comfortable and well-equipped. There was homemade cake, wine and chocolate waiting for us on our arrival. The area is very peaceful, at night all you hear is the odd owl hooting. The house is located within reach of most tourist attractions. Long Mynd and the Stiperstones are a must. We would recommend The Wain House to anyone.

We stayed at the Wain House in March 2014. Sykes moved us here after a disastrous 2 days at another property. The Wain House lived up to expectations in every respect . It was well appointed, the furnishings and fittings were of a high standard. Everything was beautifully clean and well kept. There was wine and chocolates waiting for us and the following day a wonderful coffee and walnut cake arrived. The hot tub was great, so relaxing. Even in March we used it every day. There are walks from the door and the whole place is very peaceful and relaxing. The hot tub was well maintained with checks done every day. There are other barn conversions on the site and all are very well maintained. All in all a very relaxing stay and I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful property.

We have stayed at the Wain House every year for five years now, and originally found it out as we needed somewhere very quiet and doggy friendly. We were so impressed that we return every year now without fail, and will never go anywhere else! All the barn conversions here are amazing and the standard, decor and attention to detail is incredible. Right from the start of the booking to the end of your holiday, you will find friendly helpful owners, who are on site but not intrusive, a lovely welcome pack (and even doggy biscuits), towels are included, and most little things, like tea/sugar/cleaning products etc that you would normally have to take yourself are included. It is so quiet and peaceful, lots of lovely walks around the lanes and lots of pretty villages to visit. Everywhere is doggy friendly which is great and the owners have dogs themselves who are very friendly. The Wain House now even has a hot tub which is lovely! It is so comfortable and has a private fenced in patio area, safe for dogs and kids. Cannot reccomend it enough...brilliant place...would come every few months if we could!

The hot tub at The Wain House was a real treat and made our break special. The house itself is lovely, beautifully clean with comfortable beds, nice en-suites and family bathroom. It is very quiet, surrounded by pleasant countryside with lots of walks from the door but within easy reach of places of interest. It is a very professionally run establishment with very helpful and friendly owners.

My husband & I and our two best friends booked a short break at this cottage. We were so impressed with the spaciousness of the cottage and the facilities. Equipped for self catering, we treated ourselves to steaks (cooked by the best steak chef!) The Wain house was wonderfully warm for the time of year and the hot tub was a welcome treat. So glad we found Wain house, thankyou for a wonderful break.

The owner made us feel very welcome and made it known nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation was very comfortable and warm, and made our short break special. The hot tub was a welcome addition which we used each evening after a busy day of walking or sight seeing. The cottage is situated in a beautiful area. There was nothing to dislike about our holiday.

Excellent barn conversion. Ideal enclosed garden for out two small dogs. Lovely, peaceful setting. Owners very friendly and welcoming. Plenty of places of interest to visit. Although the farm is two miles from the nearest B road, we thought it an ideal setting; very quiet and comfortable at the end of a hectic day.
