Reviews

Stayed for a week immediately after lockdown. Bottle of wine on the table for us, that didn't last long. View out the back is great, you can actually see Riber Castle away to the left above Matlock. The accomodation for 2 is excellent, wifi is very intermittent, but that is a small thing. Pub with great food and beer just down the road. Loads of walks around with National Trust and English Heritage sites in easy reach by car, just don't be in a rush down the lanes. Even with current restrictions Kedleston Hall and Bolsover Castle are worth a visit. Tram museum close by in Crich as well.

This an excellent cottage to stay in with the added bonus of being dog friendly. Fantastic peaceful location in the countryside, surrounded by fields. The facilities in the cottage are first class, everything you could want and need, including a very kind welcome gift of a bottle of wine, biscuits and treats for the dog from our hosts. We spent the week walking and there are lots of places to visit nearby. A beautiful part of the country which we thoroughly enjoyed . Will definately book again when holidaying in this part of the country.

A comfortable and welcoming cottage in beautiful countryside. A very quiet location, yet close to all amenities. Had friendly and helpful owners. A perfect area for walking with or without a dog, however if you do take a dog, many pubs and tourist attractions are dog friendly. The closest pub to the cottage was probably the most dog friendly pub I have ever been in, at one point there were more dogs than people! More of a drinking pub rather than eating, but locals were very friendly and welcoming.

Ideally located cottage with fantastic views. It was like a home from home and we received a very warm welcome on arrival. We would thoroughly recommend this amazing cottage and already have done to all our family and friends. We can't wait to return!

The owners live next door and were very kind and welcoming, but were not intrusive. The view was fantastic. The conversion is small but perfectly formed, was very clean and well presented, perfect for our little family, and the facilities are very new.

The tenants of the farm were lovely and friendly. They provided milk and tea bags when we arrived and a bottle of wine and biscuits. They even provided biscuits for our dog which was a lovely welcoming touch. Set in a beautiful location, the farm was peaceful with fantastic views of the countryside and the horses in their paddock. Loved it all.

We certainly picked a winner with this cottage. Everything was just what was required for a short break with our dog Patch. Parking right outside, lovely and warm when we arrived, and a wonderful view thrown in as an extra!

Rated by Mr Dobney reviewed on 18th March 2014

I particularly liked that you didn't need to bring such things as towels and tea towels. The greeting from our hosts when we arrived was also really nice. We couldn't fault our time at Wigwell barn, it was just what we were looking for!

Wigwell cottage was probably the best cottage we have stayed in, everything you need is in the cottage. The surrounding area was really good for walks, and nothing is too much trouble for the owners.
