From arrival to leaving the barn owner could not do enough for us. A lovely welcome pack was left for us. The barn was clean and just as advertised. As the weather was so warm the owner offered us extra bed sheets as quilts were too hot. Half way through the holiday an extra batch of clean towels were left for us. What a fantastic host! The views are unbelievable, sunsets beautiful from the patio. Such a relaxing atmosphere, just what we we needed. Thank you again.

We had waited a long time to get this break away, as cancelled last year due to covid. We finally arrived and we very excited! As soon as we opened the door, we realised how much we would love this barn and our week away. A large kitchen, beautiful lounge area with door that opens onto one of the best views, which seems endless, a picture postcard, with cows, sheep and chickens dotted around. Sunsets amazing! Bedrooms all lovely, with stone features and comfy bed! Very important! The bonus for us was a week of sunshine! We had breakfast outside and just found peace! We walked, talked, chilled and healed. Fiona, the owner, was lovely and calm. And we just did not want to leave! Even our little stressy terrier who barks at everything! was relaxed, and would sit for ages just looking at the sheep! And also adored going to see the wallabies! We will definately be back!

Sorry I've taken so long to put this review up from when we stayed last September (2017)! Lovely welcoming cottage, nice and warm on our arrival, lovely large, well equipped kitchen, not that we used it very much.....too many lovely eateries everywhere!! So peaceful here with fantastic views allround and loads of great walks for our little dog, Poppy who could also mooch around the secure garden! She was fascinated by the wallabies as well! This house seems to stay nice and warm which is lovely when it's a bit chilly outside to come back to warmth. The beds were very comfy and the shower was good too. The welcome pack was great to find! All in all this is a great place to stay......so good in fact we've just rebooked for October, can't wait!!

The location is superb! It sits just inside the Forest of Bowland AONB, next to the Yorkshire Dales National Park and very close to the Lake District National Park. We went on long walks over moors and past waterfalls, (and shorter ones) with them and their well-behaved Labrador, Lucy. We ate in great restaurants, visited Leighton Moss RSPB, and rode the famous Settle-Carlisle railway. It was a pleasure to return in the evenings to this perfect renovation. The rooms are large, airy and very tastefully appointed. There is a log-burner in the lounge, and a barbeque, both of which we made use of. There are stunning views from the secluded garden (beautifully enclosed with dry-stone walls) on the terrace, which falls away to the lawn, with a delightful cottage-garden border. The cow and sheep-filled fields fall away into the Wenning Valley and rise again majestically to the peaks of Gragareth, Whernside, Ingleborough, and farther east, Pen-y-Ghent. The views from the bedrooms were even better! The kitchen looks across the large, gravelled parking area to the paddock, where it is amazing to watch wallabies bounding across the grass as you prepare a meal. The water is copious, hot and the showers powerful. The massive stone flags on the floor benefit from under-floor heating, and there is a big range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine. I enjoyed taking Lucy for her morning walk every day, and if your dog doesn't behave, keep it on a lead, as the long drive is lined with sheep fields, and once over the cattle-grid onto the moor, the sheep are wandering freely. Lucy can be walked within feet of sheep without a lead, and behaves impeccably - a real lady. It really is perfect, and we had a FANTASTIC week.

Great location in the Forest of Bowland with tremendous views. Very clean and very well equipped. Also very spacious with an excellent kitchen and lounge. We only had a short break but hope to return before too long. Plenty to do in the area, and the Ingleton waterfalls walk is a must.

We stayed for our fourth time in September 2016 and back in March 2017. The location is perfect for exploring the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, close enough to the small town of High Bentham but also remote and has excellent views. The property is great for dogs, plenty of room for dog beds in the kitchen and sitting room. There are quiet roads all around which are safe to walk your dog. The accommodation is first class, has everything you need, a kind of 'home from home'. What we love about the property is that while it sleeps 6, it comfortably seats six in the lounge and also has the benefit of separate bath/shower room facilities for each bedroom, where other rental properties we have researched fall short on living space. Having dogs, we holiday a lot more in the UK and come back to this property each time because it is perfect and a perfect position for the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. The owners are next door although they leave you completely alone but are on had if you need anything. And of course where else in the UK could you look out of your kitchen window and see the wallaby's jumping around.

We stayed here for one week during August, it was a truly wonderful place, tranquil and beautifully appointed, my children didn't want to leave. Comfortable clean, crisp beds, everything I needed in the kitchen, open fire, comfortable settees. The garden felt very safe for my little doggie, and the views and sunsets were amazing. The resident wallabies are beautiful creatures and we could feed them banana skins as the owner suggested. The girls rode bikes and had freedom. The owners were there but were unobtrusive, and couldn't have been more helpful.

The property was beautifully cared for, quiet and the owners were especially kind. The location is perfect for exploring Lancashire and the North Yorkshire Dales. Hadrian's Wall and a bit of Scotland are just a little drive away. There are ample opportunities for hiking and the local village, High Bentham, has great pubs, two grocery stores, a butcher, bakery and even has an Indian takeaway. The home itself is very spacious and well appointed. There are many conveniences in the home that we greatly appreciated. Would definitely give this home a legitimate five stars! Oh, yes, - the resident wallabies were an extra bonus, so cute!

Set on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, this property offers first class accommodation with all the comforts of home. Dogs are welcome and have the advantage of a secure garden as well as easy access to open countryside. The property provides a cosy return after your day of visiting local attractions ( we stayed in November), is exceptionally spacious, and has been well maintained. The owners were most welcoming and live on site but provide with you complete privacy during your stay. We would highly recommend this property as a base for exploring Lancashire and the South Lakes.

This cottage was perfect in every way and we will return next year. The setting was perfect with the views of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and you really felt you were away from it all. The cottage itself felt so very comfortable and we did not feel like we were only guests. Every detail had been considered. Charlie our Beagle loved it too and with walks from the door it was again perfect for her. Although there was just the two of us and the dog, the cottage did not feel too big and because the cottage is very good value it felt like luxury but not with a huge price tag. Excellent - see you again soon.

The cottage was so nice that we really did not want to leave it, the views and walks from the door were fantastic! It really is a great location for exploring both the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales. It's a spacious barn, but cosy at the same time and the underfloor heating meant that we were really comfortable inside, while it was minus 10 (or lower) outside! The kids absolutely loved it all, especially feeding the wallabies every morning (so if you go, take some banana skins and grape stalks!) I would tell anyone that they should not hesitate to book this property - you won't be disappointed.

Location, friendliness of owners, scenery, spaciousness of accommodation, rural yet close to town with good amenities. Excellent bathroom and shower facilities. Enjoyable despite the inclement weather.

An outstanding cottage with superb views towards the Lake District, close to delightful walks in the Ingleton area. We thoroughly enjoyed our time.

A friendly welcome and offer of help if needed from the owner. Prompt service to a request for wood. The barn is in a delightful spot and even when the roads were snowbound we could walk directly from the barn.

The view - absolutely stunning - a lovely cottage with a really cosy feel. The log burner was an added bonus. Contact with the very helpful owners. Being able to access footpaths from the front door

A peaceful location in a beautiful setting. Spacious, comfortable accommodation with a friendly welcoming host. Good selection of books, games and puzzles provided along with plenty of information on local amenities and the major tourist attractions of the area. Well worth another visit in the not too distant future.

The accommodation was truly excellent: spacious, comfortable, beautiful and welcoming. The owners were helpful but unobtrusive. The surroundings were stunning, peaceful and lovely yet within easy driving or cycling distance of all necessary amenities. Even the weather was excellent!

Breathtaking views, superbe cottage, our toddlers loved all the different animals around the cottage and the safe garden to play in, landladys very friendly and helpful but not at all intrusive. Perfect, will come back again.

We had a lovely time in the property, it was very much a home from home. Plenty to visit in the surrounding countryside - we really did not have enough time to do everything.

Welcoming owner, excellent facilities; the nicest cottage we have stayed in.

Perfect location away from it all. The cottage was first class - very warm and cosy. Good walks from the doorstep and only a short drive takes you into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. We hope to return in the near future.

The cottage was in a perfect location for seeing the country side. We found some nice dining places and the cottage was first class . The owner could not have been more helpful.

Fantastic property, views out of this world. Perfect base for holiday. Owner could not have been nicer. Excellent holiday yet again from Sykes.

Rated by Mr Watson reviewed on 25th July 2007

We had a fantastic holiday at Usherwoods. There are so many good points. The views from the house and garden are unbeatable (dont miss the sunsets!). The standard of fixtures and fittings are the best we have experienced in many years of English self catering cottages. The bathrooms are works of art which I would happily have in my own house. The owners are lovely and very helpful but totally unobtrusive. The surrounding villages and countryside are beautiful with far too much to see and do in one holiday and yet in half term week we felt as though we were the only holidaymakers in the area, which is why we will definitely be back!

Owners were really welcoming. The property was newly converted so a really nice place to stay and had everything we needed. Children would enjoy as owners had a number of animals on land - including wallabys!

Very comfortable property in ideal location for gentle walking and visiting Dales and local area. Owners could not be more helpful and were available but not intrusive...

Excellent cottage, like a home from home, couldn't ask for anything more. Hospitality was welcoming, nothing was a problem for the owners. Beautiful cottage and gorgeous location!
