I booked a 3 night stay for 15th July, confirmed booking and money paid in full. Owner cancelled the booking 5 days later without telling me as they changed it to a week only booking. Spend two hours on hold before giving up Finally a call back to be told I am having to wait 10days for a refund. No apology. Stay away from this owner and Sykes Cottages.

Great 'home from home' for anyone looking to take advantage of the outdoor activities in and around Aviemore/Cairngorms. The cottage itself is spacious, clean and welcoming in a quiet residential area around 10-20 minutes walk from the town centre. The owner Sandra is very helpful if you have questions and need help getting there and access to the property. The conservatory with dining area/sofa & chairs at the back of the property allows you to enjoy the garden sheltered from the elemements while the steam train line running at the bottom of the garden is great fun for kids and big kids of all ages!

Enjoyed our stay at Steam Cottage and the owner pays attention to detail as there was everything we needed for a self-catering break included, from the fast Wi-Fi to dishwashing tablets for the dishwasher! There was plenty of room for us all as the conservatory is an added bonus, and we enjoyed sitting in the large garden, looking out for the steam trains. The cottage is about a mile from the centre of Aviemore in a peaceful and quiet location. We discovered a pleasant country walk rather than take the main road, so it was fine and handy. Close by are a local chippy and a pizza takeaway (pizzas are fab) plus a supermarket for essentials – we ordered a home delivery shop from Asda (came all the way from Inverness) so we were well stocked up. Oh, and there is a local brewery just around the corner – we enjoyed a tour and also enjoyed sampling the beer. I would thoroughly recommend the cottage to friends as it was excellent value for money and a beautiful, comfortable home to stay in for a holiday.

A good impression was made before we even arrived when the owner emailed a detailed and helpful information pack. We arrived to a spotlessly clean cottage and a very welcome tray with tea, coffee and biscuits and even some wine. The cottage is both comfortable and stylish with lots of little extras that make all the difference such as fluffy towels and a hair dryer. The owners have put a lot of thought into equipping the cottage and it lacked nothing we could have needed in our stay. We enjoyed watching the steam train and also the wildlife. I saw a group of five young deer close to the cottage. There is easy access to miles of walking including the Speyside Way. We left the car on the drive the whole week and either walked or used local buses. It is definitely a place you could come to by train and still manage to get around with ease. We had a problem with the some of the heaters and the owner was proactive in trying to resolve the issues and most apologetic. However other than some very cold nights we were warm and cosy and there is plenty of hot water and wood for the wood burner.

We have just returned from Steam Cottage having had a enjoyable week in Aviemore. The cottage was clean and very well equipped with all you need. The log burning stove is easy to light and very warm and cosy. The tea coffee and milk which were waiting for us was very welcome after a long journey. Can recommend Steam Cottage.

We had a wonderful family holiday in aviemore. The good weather was defnitely a bonus - except it was too warm to use the lovely wood burner. The cottage is very well equipped, comfortablee, cosy and ideally located for exploring the area. There are some lovely valley walks right on the door step, and the steam train running at the back of the garden was a great bonus. Must dos include Loch an Eilein followed by red squirrel watching & afternoon tea at the Potting Shed. Landmark Forest adventure Park is a great day out for kids of all ages. All in all, a great place to visit!

A superb little cottage, in a very nice spot, and extremely quiet when we were there. Loads to do for all ages and very pretty scenery.

This was just what the doctor ordered, the home provides everything you need. The location we knew with visiting the area for years and was why we chose here, but it was the first time at this address. With the new Costcutter store over the rail line, shopping was just a short walk so no need for the car. The one thing I did not like was the guy came to cut the grass during our stay, luckily we were out that afternoon. But had we been sat in the garden or house we would not have had the privacy we were there for ? I suggest the grass gets cut in the hours between guest check out & next guest check in ?

We loved the sun room, log burner and patio doors from bedroom with a very comfortable king-size bed, the privacy of the place too. Pet friendly.

Rented this cottage for a week in March. The location was great, very peaceful but still within walking distance of the town if we wanted to walk. Cottage had everything we could possibly have needed and was very clean. There was a nice log fire with plenty of wood available to use and once we got used to working the log burner (instructions would have been useful) it was lovely and cosy. One of my favourite places was sitting in the conservatory for our meals. We could keep an eye on the dog in the garden (which he loved), but we also had the steam train running by at the end of the garden! Would certainly go back and also recommend it to anyone wanting a nice relaxing home from home break?

It was a very peaceful location. We liked the conservatory and the fact we had a nice enclosed garden for our dog to enjoy. It meant we had a very chilled out, relaxing holiday and the steam train going by was an added bonus.

Ideal place for couples or family with small children to stay in Aviemore. We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed the log burner for extra heat as there was quite a bit of snow about and it was freezing outside. The house has all things you need for a comfotable stay, very homely and would recomend this place for anyone looking to stay in Aviemore.
