Reviews

We stayed here for 4 nights in May 17 and had a lovely relaxing few days. Undoubtedly, the glorious weather helped! Despite the property being semi-detached you wouldn't have know there was anyone next door. The property was stocked with tea bags, coffee and everyday cupboard essentials such as sugar, salt, gravy granules etc.. and an additional nice gesture was a pint of milk in the fridge and two pieces of cake in a tin - much appreciated after a drive of c.200 miles! Bed linen and towels were included too. The ground floor bathroom has a walk in shower and the first floor bathroom has a bath. There is a washing machine and other appliances available for use such as a vacuum cleaner, iron etc.. The owners kindly fitted the wheelchair ramp from the patio door to the garden although unfortunately we were not able to use it because the small wheels on the wheelchair did not like the gravel driveway. We managed though and probably a larger wheeled chair would make it across the gravel. The properties are situated near to the owners cottage with nothing else in the immediate vicinity. We met the lovely owners who were happy to be contacted if help was needed and we also made friends with their adorable border collie! The nearest village, Stamford Bridge is about a 10 minute drive away and has a Co-op Food, newsagent, take away, pub etc.. Grimston Bar Park & Ride is again about a 10 minute drive away and for £2.90 return takes you to Piccadilly, York which is convenient for tourist attractions such as JORVIK Viking Centre, York Castle Museum, York Minster and The Shambles. Scarborough was about an hour away by car and a nice drive on the A64. Lovely place to stay for discovering the area and so quiet you'll probably have the best nights sleep you've had in a long time!

We wanted a few days away where we could just chill out and walk the dog. This is exactly what we got at The Barn. The cottage had everything that we needed, it was clean and comfortable and the garden was perfect for the dog. The nearest shops were about 5 minutes away and there was everything you needed in one place. The cottage is close to,the road and during the day it was quite busy. However, come nightfall it all became very quiet.

Charming, thoughtfully equipped cottage that was beautifully clean. Very comfortable beds with good quality bed linen. Owners very friendly and approachable. We enjoyed our holiday very much and were very comfortable in the cottage. We would recommend without hesitation.

What a perfect break in stunning surroundings, a lovely barn and garden area. Stamford Bridge village was only a 5 minute drive with a nice deli and great pub. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend The Barn to family and friends.

Great property, lovely area. Arrived to a delicious cake and milk in the fridge, how thoughtful! (it's the little things that count). The enclosed garden made for a great break for Soco (my dog) and plenty of walking areas around, with Stamford Bridge a 5 minute drive. The owners were very helpful and friendly along with Gyll, their very well behaved and friendly dog. I would return and would definitely tell my friends and family about this property.

The cottage was exceptionally clean and really comfortable. The hosts have furnished and equipped The Barn to feel like a real 'home from home', and the garden was really great for the dog. I would definitely recommend The Barn to anyone looking for a rural retreat within easy reach of York and the coast.

We had a lovely stay in The Barn. The property is very close to York but in a rural setting and so blissfully quiet at night time. There are some very good pubs nearby. Thank you to the owners for providing such a nice cottage and for the chocolate cake on arrival.

Fantastic welcome by the cottage owner. Cottage was decorated to a high standard, it was great for my mother who is partially disabled. Extremely comfortable beds and a beautiful garden for relaxing in, would be ideal for a dog!

Lovely peaceful location. Enjoyed the fact the garden was totally enclosed and private. The property was tastefully decorated and furnished, and very comfortable. Not too far from York and other attractions.

Excellent accommodation in a very quiet part of the country, although only a couple of miles from a village and another mile or so to local shops, pubs/restaurants etc. Owners were close by and very helpful and pleasant. Lovely cake, milk left in the kitchen for us on arrival. Would definitely recommend. Weather was very kind to us.

We stayed at the recently renovated Barn this July and had a wonderful stay. The owners have put in EVERYTHING you'd possibly need for a home from home experience but with that awesome 'holiday feeling' thrown in! Ref 21068 (The Studio) adjoins the property and can be used to accommodate bigger groups who want to be together but separate! The Studio also has disabled access. We had THE BEST time here and enjoyed the real countryside feel ... sipping wine in the sunshine in the back garden while the tractors go about their business gives a real feelgood factor! Can't wait to come back from Australia to stay again next time we're in UK. Thanks guys!

The property was excellent, and the location was ideal for access to York and all of the local attractions. Highly recommend.

The cottage was great, and there was lots to do in York.

Rated by Miss Reid reviewed on 1st November 2013

We loved the situation, in the country but handy for York and the coast. The cottage had all we needed. We liked the walk in shower in our en-suite, and the i-pod deck, books and dominoes. We had a couple of meals in the Gold Cup in the next village (Low Catton) which were very good. Best day out was to Whitby; about an hour and a quarter's drive away. We would happily come here again.
