Spent a glorious week in this wonderful cottage. So well equipped and comfortable. Are hosts were so kind liked the welcome cake The cottage is so well situated with wonderful walks and places to visits all on the doorstep or short drives. We spotted deer on Hutton Crags and we were so pleased with local eateries in Kirkby Lonsdale. The cottage was fully equipped and lovely in warm even on frosty nights. Ideal for star watching on a clear night and views were breathtaking.

The view from the Barn was brilliant. The kitchen is the best equipped kitchen we have had. The beds were very comfortable and the showers were so easy to use.

The house was perfect and the owners know exactly what people want. It is ideally situated for exploring the Lakes and surrounding area and is supplied with everything you could need for your stay. Every little detail is taken care of.

So lovely and so british !

Pickle Barn is in a lovely location with views for miles. There is a mixture of garden and woodland, so plenty of wildlife nearby. The property is very comfortable with lots of light. The heating is good and the underfloor heating is great. The owner welcomed us and we could contact him if we needed to. A very pleasant stay!

Rated by Mrs Hodgins reviewed on 10th November 2014

The cottage was extremely well appointed. It was well finished to a high standard in a lovely quiet location. We would both be very happy to recommend it to anyone.

Rated by Mr Campion reviewed on 15th September 2014

The barn is excellent, very clean and everything you need. When we arrived there were a lovely selection of traybakes - delicious. The views from the upstairs living accommodation are lovely. My husband had the best 2 nights astronomy he has ever had. We could not fault anything!

Welcoming hosts, idyllic location, closeness to nature, unspoilt character of area, tranquillity, national trust properties , bird reserves.

Rated by Mr Dixon reviewed on 29th June 2014

Beautiful location and views. Walks straight from the cottage.

Rated by Mr Smith reviewed on 1st June 2014

Quiet - away from traffic - main sound was bleating sheep and new-born lambs. Facilities all as described, high quality in everything. Balcony views to Ingleborough. Between Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, south of the Howgills. Pubs/restaurants 2 or 4+miles away. Hutton Roof is indeed 3 miles from the Kirkby Lonsdale turn but there's over a mile of village to pass through before the Pickle Barn turn. Generous heating and plenty of hot water at all times.

We were made to feel very welcome and were given a lot of information about local attractions etc. The cottage is set in a beautiful part of the country, and it was a lovely peaceful place to return to after a day out. Would recommend the train ride from Settle to Carlisle, and there is a lovely cycle ride along the river Lune.

A beautifully appointed cottage in glorious peaceful surroundings. The property had everything we needed and we were fascinated by the spectacular views from the garden. We couldn't have had a warmer welcome from Mike and Steve - tea and cakes set out for our arrival and a visit to make sure all was ok. This cottage is somewhere we are looking forward to visiting again.

We liked all aspects of our holiday. There is a lot to do in the area, even for a 4 year old, and the property is first class. We will certainly consider returning to the area in the future!

Very warm welcome and very helpful throughout our weeks stay. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend. Very peaceful location. Absolutely lovely. My kids loved it.

We were made very welcome by the owners Mike and Steve with tea and yummy cakes awaiting us on our arrival. Very well equipped kitchen. Lovely TV etc with a large selection of books, games, videos etc. Comfortable bedrooms and clean well-equipped bathrooms. Perfect location, very peaceful with gorgeous views in every direction. Short drive away from a lovely supermarket on edge of the lovely market town of Kirby Lonsdale. Good local pubs, in particular the Barbon Inn! We also loved the 2 horses in the stable across the driveway who greeted us each morning and evening, and all the sheep and bunnies! Only grumble - the property would benefit from a washing machine (there isn't one!) and also from an upstairs loo - there is a small room off of the lounge which would fit the bill perfectly!

It really felt like having "time out", the sense of peace from being away from it all in this beautiful part of the world, the friendliness of the people and walking across amazing landscapes improved our well-being, our fitness and family unity.

Rated by Maggie McNally reviewed on 29th October 2011

Pickle Barn is in a stunning location, really peaceful with fantastic views on all sides. It is within easy reach of the A65 and extremely close to the border with both Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales, so day trips to both plus of course the Lake District are an absolute must. The barn itself is really well equipped and comfortable, with very helpful owners. The tea and cakes on arrival were very welcome. A wonderful property!

Rated by Mrs Bolton reviewed on 23rd October 2011

One of the best, if not the best, property of Sykes Cottages we have stayed in and we have stayed in many great places over the years. I can't fault it in any way. The owner was welcoming and left essential goodies which were much appreciated. If you want a holiday where you can swtich-off, this is the place for you. In the middle of the rolling countryside it is a great place to recharge your batteries. However, there are lots of interesting places to visit within the vicinity so you can have the best of both worlds.

Rated by Mrs Bedford reviewed on 18th September 2011

We received a nice welcome from the hosts and they were very approachable but also respected our privacy. Games, DVD, videos were provided in the property and some useful foods that are difficult to transport and can't be bought in small quantities. Thoughtful of the hosts to include these items.

Rated by Mrs McNally reviewed on 3rd September 2011

We booked to stay at Pickle Barn in July during a family holiday. While our booking was for a week, we could only fit four nights into our schedule. Right from the moment we drove up and saw the sheep grazing and the stallion sticking its head out of the stable, we wished we were there longer. It was peaceful and quiet, and our hosts left us alone to explore - which we did, from North Wales to York Minster and Keswick in between. The accommodation is even nicer than the pictures on the website, and location is great - close to an A-Road, and Kirkby Lonsdale a short drive away.

Wow! Pickle Barn's location in the Lune Valley is simply stunning. The surrounding landscape is beautiful, peaceful and so quiet! Our host was charming and very welcoming, laying on tea and cakes ready for our arrival. The barn itself is fabulous, the conversion is quite new so all the facilities offered are in great condition with breathtaking views of sweeping countryside from the upstairs living area balconies. It was lovely just to sit with a pot of tea and watch the weather roll by and the birds come and go in the six acres of grounds. Perfect! Also plenty to do within twenty minute's drive in the nearby Yorkshire Dales and there's a good quality supermarket ten minutes away.

There are many fantastic things to say about Pickle Barn, but for us the best thing was the view - on a good day (we were very lucky) you can see the lake district and the yorkshire dales, as well as the howgill hills and some lovely farmland. Does it need to be said that the location is fantastic ? We spent 2 days in the Lakes ( 30 mins away) , 1 day in the Dales (similar distance) and the rest of the time more locally - we love Kirby Lonsdale, this was out third visit and it justs grows on us. It was our first time at Pickle Barn and we will certainly be back - friendly owners and a good welcome with lots of thoughtful 'extras' , immaculatly clean, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, lots of outside space, peace and quiet. it was lovely to eat breakfast with the doors wide open and the sun streaming in ... missing it already.

From start to finish we had an excellent time. Accommodation was fantastic, lovely and clean, well catered for. Our host was lovely, not in your face, but around if you needed her.
