Reviews

The cottage itself is gorgeous and so comfortable with everything you could need. The underfloor heating keeps everyone toasty while you relax. The owners Chris and Trish are fantastic and assisted us with navigating the local area and made sure we were happy and didn't need anything with a warm welcome. We would love to return in the summer and see the area in bloom and our little dog had a blast. Just a small note that Chris tried to tell us about but we made a mistake! If you are arriving from J38 of the M6 do not follow your sat nav when it tells you to turn left onto Regional Rte 72 towards Waitby and Smardale as you will be on single-track road for a few miles with very few places to pull in if there is a vehicle coming the other way. Instead, follow the road until you reach Kirby Stephen and turn left at the mini roundabout, and follow the sat nav from there. It wasn't a fun drive. Thank you again so much and we hope to return very soon.

This beautiful cottage is ideally situated between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The house is tastefully decorated, the kitchen is fully equipped and the bedding ultra comfortable. There is an incredible collection of tastefully selected DVDs to enjoy in the evenings. We were welcomed by Trisha who was lovely. We would recommend this cottage for a stay in the Lake District!

Stayed for a week in this beautiful and well appointed cottage and had an absolutely great stay in every way. Each of the 4 rooms are clean and decorated in a modern way and it is really cosy with great views across local fields and to the hills. The kitchen has stone floors but as all rooms are equipped with underfloor heating it is a great place to cook and eat. Well equipped it has everything you could ask for for a really comfortable stay including clothes washer and dryer. The sitting room is the main room and has a large table and sofas. It also comes with a good range of books, DVD's and CDs. The bedroom has a large twin bed that is pushed together. it is slightly cooler than the other rooms but this was most welcome. The bathroom is small and well decorated. Outside to the rear is a small private and enclosed yard with seating and table. You also have access to the larger grassed garden but we did not need this. With parking at the front the cottage is in a beautiful area that provides great access to the Dales, Lakes and Scottish borders. We had one problem with the toilet ( that was our fault) and this was repaired within hours.

Brilliant cottage, very spacious for a one bed. Warm and cozy, nice unobtrusive hosts. Great value and well equipped/ furnished for the money. The cottage is in a quiet rural location , a central base for exploring the Cumbrian Lakes, Yorkshire and Durham dales. Car essential.

Fantastic cottage in a great location to explore the Lakes and Dales. Had friendly yet unobtrusive hosts. A cute cottage which was very good value for money.

Rated by Mr Smith reviewed on 8th March 2015

My partner booked the cottage through Sykes. It was advertised as pet friendly so we checked that we could take our cat. Following confirmation that this was fine, we packed ourselves and our cat up, and were merrily on our way. The cottage is situated just outside the hamlet of Soulby, near Kirkby Stephen. The owner gave us directions otherwise we may have not found it ourselves. The location provides an easy starting point for getting to Keswick and Penrith. Cherry Tree Cottage was simply gorgeous. The décor is tasteful and in keeping with the style of the cottage. Tea, coffee, sugar etc, and towels were provided. As was a bottle of wine for when we arrived and fresh milk. Lovely touches. It has underfloor heating, and extra bedding/throws. Even though we went in February, we didn't go cold. There is a vast number of maps and leaflets to peruse, which we made use of. Parking permits are also available for Cumbrian Council parking zones. For cosy nights in, there are numerous DVDs and videos to choose from, as well as Freeview TV. There is also an array of reading material, and an eclectic mix of music albums to listen to on the stereo. There is no Wi-Fi or internet access, that I knew of at least, but neither of us missed it. We wanted for nothing, and the cat enjoyed the trip too! A*

Rated by Mr Gould reviewed on 30th September 2013

The owners were very pleasant. Eggs/milk/wine were waiting for us. They just let you get on with your holiday. A five star plus rating (excellent). The garden is enclosed, and perfect for children and dogs. The birds in the garden eating the nuts were lovely, also a woodpecker was eating the nuts, as well no sign of red squirrel, and yes the chickens like digestive biscuits.

Rated by Mr Griffiths reviewed on 26th September 2013

The cottage is lovely, and the owner was friendly and helpful. It was furnished comfortably and was very clean and inviting. The welcome tray was fine, if you drink- which I don't, but I did enjoy the endless supply of eggs. There were books and magazines, so that I was never short of something to read, The countryside is lovely, and well worth looking at, and the local towns had interesting shops and cafes. The weather was fine, and not over-warm, but it didn't matter much as there was plenty to do indoors if necessary. There is a lovely little church in Soulby where I shared the service with people I had known a good number of years ago.The only thing that was disappointing was the lack of garden centres and antique shops, which I particularly like, but that had absolutely nothing to do with the cottage or its amenities.

The cottage is warm, spacious and well-presented. It has everything you could possibly need for a great holiday - stunning views, lots of wildlife, a well-equipped kitchen, a comfy bed and one of the best collections of Dvds and books we have come across. What's more, the location is second to none - on one hand you have the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, on the other there is the stunning Lake District. We also found a number of lovely local walks in and around Kirkby Stephen. In short, a walker's paradise! We will be back soon.
