Location Details

Positioned on a hill overlooking Morecambe Bay is the small village of Bardsea. This remote settlement grew from a small fishing village and farming area to become a major transportation link for coal, iron ore and corn. Today, Bardsea still retains its fishing heritage, and features two pubs, both of which serve fine ales and good food. The village itself is located close to Furness Abbey, whilst the market town of Ulverston is just two miles away, and maintains its street market tradition, hosting one every Thursday and Saturday throughout the year. Ulverston is also the location for many festivals including an amazing lantern procession in November and a Dickensian weekend in early December. With all the attractions of the Lake District National Park within easy driving distance, and the sandy beaches of the Furness coast close by, this peaceful spot has plenty to offer.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Reviews

Stayed here 2nd sept-9th sept, had reservations after reading a previous review, yes the place needs a bit of TLC which the owner told me was due shortly, this did not in any way affect a wonderful stay with views to die for and a beach front that extends as far as the eye can see, it is a dog walkers paradise and the bird life feeding on the edges of the sea have to be seen to believe.Found the property cleaned to a decent standard and the patio area acceptable and a great place to sit out and watch the birds. The lane leading down to the property is very narrow and parking a bit tight, also getting out at the top of the lane is dangerous with a blind bend to your left, however with care we managed with a large 4x4 ! I would not recommend for a novice driver, this is what you expect for a secluded property.

Had very high expectations but sadly disappointed Wonderful location but the property has been neglected internally and externally. It's tired, worn and a little dilapidated. The freezer compartment of the fridge was unusable and the oven's temperature gauge was none existent- totally worn away. There were no instruction manuals for any of the electrical utilities. There were a number of faults - a poorly fitted(difficult to close) window & blown glass in some of the panes. This obstructed some of the views. Not very clean. A plus was that though 'tired looking the sofa and chairs were comfy which was nice after long walks and for reading, watching TV. Outside, whilst the drive seems big it's not easy to manoeuvre in and out of the property. The grounds themselves are untidy and in need of some maintenance. The welcome chocolates & wine were a nice touch and Amy the owner seems very nice and was very apologetic about the window which makes me sad to write such a poor review. Charging £1700 for the week though I think is way above what this standard of property is worth. We weren’t really comfortable so we left after 4 days into a 7 day break. With some TLC/a rebuild this property could be spectacular. I'm not demanding and happy with basic but stuff has to work, be safe & be clean. It gives me no pleasure leaving this review but it's why reviews exist - to share both the good and not so good so people can make better informed choices. Would I stay again, even at a lower price? No.

Driftwood Cottage is at the end of a very narrow lane which ends at the beach. Absolutely wonderful, peaceful and stunning views across Morecambe Bay. Loved watching the tide come in and go out, listening to the birds circling above. Only the occasional dog walker. The dogs were an absolute joy to watch as, once off the lead, they ran round and paddled and were obviously having lots of fun. The cottage is very understated but gorgeous. The sofas and chairs in the lounge area very comfortable. There is a tv, but we spent most of the time soaking up those views. There are 3 bedrooms and our bed was very comfortable. Kitchen is compact but has everything you need including a dishwasher and a microwave. Only 2 of us so we did the washing up the old fashioned way. I cooked from scratch most evenings but there are lots of local eateries nearby. Sitting on the patio it felt like it was our own private beach-heaven. Will we go back. I do hope so if we can ever get booked in as it is a very popular cottage.

The location for the cottage is excellent. You couldn't be any closer to the beach. We had a lovely week in the cottage and our dog loved it. The cottage is lovely and clean and well equipped. Lovely long walks on the beach tired our dog out. Communication with our host was good. We had some fantastic sunrises during out stay.

We had the very fortunate opportunity to stay at this cottage in the October half term, travelling from Somerset and arriving in the early hours, the cottage still felt very welcoming on arrival. The views were spectacular and surrounded with gorgeous scenery, the location was brilliant for travelling around the lakes and seeing Cumbria, which on the whole is breathtaking. We have a young family and the cottage was very accommodating, providing a travel cot, highchair etc, even a dishwasher so we didn't have to do the dishes.

This is a gem of a cottage, right on the beach and away from all the hustle and bustle of town/city life. Amazing views and plenty to do round and about. We loved it, dogs loved it, the adults and kids loved it. If you want to chill, this is the place.

Driftwood cottage was in a perfect spot, right next to the beach. It was so relaxing and the children spent most days on the beach. As a family with a dog we could not have had a better holiday. We have already booked for next year; thanks.

In a great location, right on the beach - we went every day! It was very clean, and the owner was extremely helpful & considerate. Great, we really enjoyed our stay.

The greatest thing about Driftwood is the location. Fantastic for a quiet holiday with the dogs and good local amenities. The cottage itself had everything we needed, comfortable and warm with the wood burner lit. We have already booked again.

Lovely cottage, very well appointed and right on the beach. We took our three dogs and went for long walks on the beach every day. In the afternoon we sat by the log burner and watched the tide come in - perfect. very quiet which is what we wanted and we went for visits to Ulveston and Kendal which are not far. We looked at re-booking before we left and the cottage was booked up until November! Just shows how lovely it is! could recommend highly enough, will definitely go back.

Fabulous stay! Would highly recommend Driftwood Cottage to people looking for a complete break from the stress of everyday life. Especially great for people with dogs, as the beach is seconds from the front door! Peaceful, quiet and pure stress-free heaven!

This cottage is situated at the end of a quiet lane right on the beach. We booked in for a week but would have happily stayed longer as it was very comfortable. The cottage is small but perfectly formed and was a great bolt hold to come back to after a day out exploring the local area. The log fire heated the cottage up very quickly and made snuggling down on a night with a glass of wine very relaxing. We traveled as a family of four with 2 additional fury family members in tow - the dogs loved having the beach so close (made the early morning walk nice and easy) as well as all the other great dog friendly attractions the Lakes has to offer. The local pub (Farmers Arms) was a huge hit with everyone (especially the dogs), food and service were second to none - this place should be a must for anyone staying at the cottage. Roys Ices also shouldn't be missed out on, great selection of ice creams to help finish off the end of each day. Will definitely be back!!!!

The location of the cottage is excellent. The long windows in the lounge enabled an amazing view and the whole place had a comfortable and cosy feel about it.

Loved the cottage. Not only is it in a wonderful location right by the beach, it has a real cosy nautical vibe. Loved the décor and the views. It was fab having a log burner and a dishwasher. Enjoyed using the telescope, loved everything about it.

The location is absolutely fantastic - even in a wet and windy January. Driftwood is a lovely, cosy cottage, with splendid views over the Bay and great facilities.

The Scandinavian vibe of the cabin was lovely and the laminate floor was practical for the dogs. The closeness to the beach was amazing, it made it very relaxing. The view through the large picture window out on the estuary was amazing. Having Wifi and a dishwasher was a bonus.

Location near the beach- good for dogs to enjoy freedom without being on the lead all of the time as beach is fairly quiet. Pub at the top of the road was nice and friendly. The local town is nice with good choice of shops.

Rated by Mrs Whitworth reviewed on 25th September 2014

Situated right on the beach which was a perfect location for walking the dogs. The cottage was very well equiped with a modern kitchen and comfortable bedrooms. The panoramic views from the lounge were superb. If you want a relaxing and tranquil break in easy reach of the Lake District this is the place for you with or without pets.

Very enjoyable time at Driftwood Cottage, very quiet and relaxing, had the whole beach to ourselves! The cottage was very well equipped with good quality pans, plates, mugs etc. The beds and duvets were very comfortable. We would love to return.

I have just got back from a 4 night stay at Driftwood Cottage with my husband, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, their two young children and two Whippets. It was a bit of a squeeze but we were out and about most of the time anyway. There isn't much to do within walking distance but we had two cars so wasn't much of an issue. We went to the local pubs Farmers Arms and the Ship Inn for tea both were lovely but preferred The Ship Inn as it was a bit more child friendly and owners were lovely. The cottage itself is beautiful, clean and well equipped. The owner Amy obviously pays attention to detail. The door handle broke and we reported it to Sykes. Amy rang us immediately and sorted out a locksmith to come and fix it. The wood burner was great and we sued it most nights as it warmed the entire cottage quickly. The dogs (and us!) loved having the beach on our doorstep for long windy walks. I would love to come back in the summer as I hear the beach is nice and quiet but it is all booked up till November! A sign of how great this place is. Tranquil, peaceful, relaxing stay away from the hustle and bustle. Will definitely be back soon!

The cottage was lovely and just what we needed at this time of the year, a short break in a lovely location. I would love to return. When arranging to get the key with the owner, she was helpful and polite.

Stunning location on the beach and perfect for our walking weekend. An extremely comfortable cottage with good quality beds, bedding and kitchen equipment, providing everything needed for a self catering holiday for the three of us. The wood burner and heaters ensured that we were warm and cosy despite the howling winds and rain. The views from the living room were spectacular and in better weather we would have made use of the patio and plentiful garden furniture. A return in calmer weather a real possibility!

It is a quaint little chalet right next to the beach. Fantastic views across the Bay of Morcombe. The windows in the chalet are south facing to lounge gets quiet warm in the day time. Decor in chalet is very nice good facilities. Free WiFi Bedrooms a little small but adequate. Beds very comfortable. Nice bedding. Electric storage heaters and a log burner heating was more than efficient. Lovely garden area to sit out in with ample of out side seating. Drive way into property is a little tight. Lane down to the property is very narrow. Good access to the South Lakes area few miles from Barrow in Furness and Ulverston. Really enjoyed my stay would defo like to use again. Owners leave you to get on and don't bother you, but any problems a phone call and they would do every effort to solve any issues.

The cottage and surrounding area was lovely. Direct access to the beach for walks was great. Best view of the sea from a window we have ever had. Cottage was well equipped and decorated to a good standard. All the furnishings added to the sea side theme. Outside furniture and space was fantastic, just a shame we did not have better weather. Would definitely go back.
