Sandbach 3 miles. A superb, detached cottage, located on the owner's 2 acre smallholding, ideally located close to the popular market town of Sandbach. Dating back to 1881, this delightful cottage has been sympathetically converted from an attractive Victorian stable building, with wooden windows and doors and homely modern styling, making it ideal as a romantic retreat. This charming cottage, next to the owner's home, offers cosy, open plan accommodation with a galleried bedroom looking onto the sitting room and a ground floor modern and stylish bathroom. The first floor bedroom feels open and airy with skylights, a round window and a stylish glass balustrade. Entering into the open plan living area you will find a comfortable double sofa bed and tub chair set in front of the warming woodburning stove, with a flue stretching up past the mezzanine to the roof. The kitchenette is practical and modern with soft close doors, offering the ideal area to prepare simple home-cooked meals, to be enjoyed at the dining table. A full length glazed door leads off the sitting room onto a gravel patio seating area, with far-reaching views and overlooking the smallholding with llamas, ducks, chickens, geese and cockerels all roaming happily together. Sandbach is a large historic market town dating back to Saxon times, with its famous Saxon Crosses still visible in the picturesque cobbled square where it still holds regular weekly markets, and a monthly farmers' market. Sandbach offers an array of independent specialist and high street chain stores, interspersed with gastropubs, specialist food stores and real ale pubs. Local parks include Congleton Park and Sandbach Park with bowling greens and outdoor gym, or nearby Brereton Heath Nature Reserve with its wildlife and woodland walks. The cottage is an ideal base to access the towns of Congleton, Alsager, Middlewich and Holmes Chapel, where you can also take the train into Manchester. Join the Dane Valley Way, South Cheshire Way or Cheshire Ring Canal Way for miles of beautiful cycle trails. The nearby National Trust properties of Little Moreton Hall and Tatton Hall are well worth a visit as are The Potteries at Stoke-on-Trent. This cosy cottage is an ideal, romantic getaway or perfect touring base, from which to relax and explore the delights of the surrounding area, and the Peak District is just a half hour drive away.

Reviews

Stayed here during half term, the accommodation is exactly as described. There was a nice bottle of red wine & cookies as a welcome gift & also milk, tea coffee, sugar etc to start you off. Peter & Anthea were very friendly & helpful, Anthea also took our Grandaughter & showed Her around the Holding & let Her feed some of the animals, especially the Llamas which She loved. Thank you.

A lovely little gem of a place with just enough space for two. The cottage is well designed and well equipped - the pictures show it well. It is beside the owner's house on a smallholding with lamas, chickens, ducks, geese and a friendly cat. The animals were lovely to watch and we got used to the cockerels crowing just before dawn! It was very warm when we stayed and the outside space was appreciated to sit for breakfast. The dormer windows upstairs let the heat out and kept the place feeling airy. I would love to visit at a cooler time of year to try out the wood burning stove. The only slight downside was being on the main road (A50): hearing traffic, which got quite busy in rush hour and you do need to be very careful in the car pulling out on to the road. There is plenty of room to park one car, and would be enough for two. We found lots to do in the area - exploring the Peak District, Chester and Liverpool. Recommended.

Clean, quiet, self contained, warm and cozy. On a busy road but I never noticed the traffic noise. Hosts Peter and Anthea were wonderful - unobtrusive but available if needed. The wood fire/stove was a little bit cantankerous, but once working it kept the property snuggly and warm on a couple of nights where the temperature plummeted to well below freezing. An added bonus is that the bathroom has a full bath tub - most self catering properties of this size only have a shower. The ducks, geese and chickens are all friendly and chatty, and there are also 5 llamas to get up close and personal with (a first for me). I would thoroughly recommend this property and will definitely be staying here on my next trip (hopefully they will have a vacancy!).
