Beautiful house. Lovely garden Ideal location So warm and cosy Super memories of a fabulous week One word says it all!

Rated by WilsonKL1967 reviewed on 10th May 2018

Firstly, reviews can be subjective. If you spent £650 for a week here your view would be different from someone spending over £2000. This view is based on us spending around £1400 for a week. This is a nice property and the location in relation to Helmsley can not be faulted. Such a short walk to the market place it's fab. Helmsley is a lovely little town with more dog friendly eateries than anywhere I have ever been! The house is large , but I think the occupancy should be less. Luckily we were not at capacity but I think it would be quite uncomfortable if we were. Firstly the bedroom with 2 extra beds, we had one pulled out and that was enough. With 2 out there would no floor space between them. The other issue is the kitchen. When the table is away from the wall it leaves very little maneuvering room for cooking and serving and feels quite cramped. I had a real problem with the lack of privacy glass in the en-suite. Most of the time you therefore had the blind down and the light on. Unfortunately the very noisy extractor fan carries on for a ridiculous length of time after the light is turned off. At night this was especially annoying. I would have used the mirror light but the bulb was missing! My other major issue was in thinking the garden was enclosed. Although I was outside with our dog, I did not realise he could get through the hedge - one minute he was there, then he was gone after a cat next door. Several minutes later he returned following frantic shouting from all the family but it was a heart stopping time. Other little niggles; Only one toilet roll in each bathroom and one bin bag in the kitchen with no spare?! Ridiculous bottom rack in dishwasher with no real space for plates and a big crash when you pulled it in or out. Constantly dripping tap in kitchen. I know I seem like I am being negative but I feel there are issues with this property that need addressing. I try to give honest reviews and I feel this is. On a final note, this is the only property I have ever stayed in where I have been asked to strip the beds and empty the bins - they said only if you have time but really?!

Just got back from a lovely week in Helmsley at Castle View. The house was very homely with a lovely garden and just a short walk into beautiful helmsley with its great choice of independent shops and a great choice of pubs and restaurants.Everyone we met was very helpful and friendly, would highly recommend.

This house is warm and welcoming in a snowy November, fully equipped with everything you could need for a family weekend away. The owners are friendly and efficient making the organising very easy. The location was great for us both walking distance into Helmsley and easy access to great dog walks. All we need now is to book again in the summer to make full use of the garden.

We stayed as 2 families for New Year 2015. The house is spotless, beautifully presented spacious & everything you could need for a fab stay. There's everything you could ever need & more the children loved it as they could walk in to the village to the sweet shop! The firework display New Year's Eve was lovely. Amazing house with a lovely feel the minute you walk in.

We visited Helmsley as a group of two families, in all there were 9 of us and 2 dogs. The house was easily large enough to accommodate us without us getting under each others' feet. Every room is beautifully decorated, with four good sized bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a lovely large kitchen, living room and conservatory. Plus a really nice, secluded garden and decking area, with private parking for one car. On arrival, it was clear that the house was spotlessly clean, and there was even a small welcome gift awaiting us. The owners provided logs for the fire, use of bicycles, ideas for things to do / see / eat, and really everything anyone could need for a great holiday on the edge of the North York moors. We spent most of our time walking, but also used Helmsley's outdoor pool, visited the castle, Rievaulx Abbey and Mount Grace Priory. We mostly ate in the house kitchen in the evening and then retired to the conservatory for a glass of wine. We did venture into the village for a wonderful meal at the Black Swan one evening - thoroughly recommended, but with prices to match the quality of the food! In all, a wonderful relaxing week in a beautiful part of the country. Thinking of returning, maybe for a winter break.

Rated by D_Skipton reviewed on 14th August 2016

A great location, Helmsley has so much to offer, and we loved being able to walk to shops and cafes, which are only a few minutes away. We can't speak highly enough of Castle View which was comfortable, spacious, very well equipped and in immaculate condition. All "mod cons" were of the highest quality and the furniture was comfortable and tasteful. The kitchen was also well equipped and there was lots of storage space in the bedrooms. A real home from home.

The house was very comfortable and spacious, we felt at home and very relaxed whilst we were there. The property was conveniently located in a nice quiet area about a two minute walk to the centre of the beautiful market town, which had lovely quaint shops and tearooms. The house was situated in easy access of the neighbouring villages and places of interest.

There was nothing to dislike at this lovely property or of Helmsley. The house was close to the centre of Helmsley with lots of attractions nearby and the house was very comfortable with lots of room for our family. We all enjoyed sitting in the conservatory in the early morning and watching the birds in the garden. It was even better in the evening when the garden lights came on as the garden is very secluded and the area was very quiet. We all had a brilliant week

The location of the property was wonderful - convenient for the town/shops and parking was no problem. The garden was delightful -quiet, secluded and enclosed plus plenty of space in the property.

Rated by Mrs Judd reviewed on 17th May 2014

The location of this house is perfect. Walk into town for milk in just a minute, and walk to the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey in just an hour. Playground just a short walk away for the young children. Also, great relief to have the toys/legos in a rental, gave us downtime without always resorting to a movie. A short and easy one hour drive to York or the coast. Definitely leave a day in your plans to just hang out at home! Heated floors and the sun room were the biggest hit with us. Will return again.

Beautiful, spacious house, prettily decorated, comfortable beds, incredibly well equipped kitchen, perfect location, extremely peaceful though only 5 minutes walk from town centre. Everything absolutely perfect.

Rated by Mrs De Castellane reviewed on 16th May 2011

This beautiful house is even more spacious that the photographs suggest, and although we filled all the rooms we never felt on top of one another. It is prettily decorated, the bedrooms large and airy and the beds very comfortable, and three bathrooms , one with a large bath, meant no queues in the morning! Having a downstairs bedroom and shower was ideal for one elderly guest, all very accessible. Every detail has been thought of all throughout the house and the lovely kitchen is no exception - much better equipped than home! We sat 11 comfortably round the table. The conservatory is a great bonus, such a comfortable place to sit looking out over the lovely garden. The location is ideal, perfectly quiet yet only five minutes walk down a lane to the square in Helmsley and all its amenities. The house was spotlessly clean, and finding beds made up, bread, butter, milk etc waiting was a much appreciated thoughtful touch after a long journey. The large selection of toys in the cupboards and videos to watch on the upstairs or downstairs television would keep any child amused for any number of rainy days. Our only regret was not staying there longer. I couldn't recommend it more highly and would love to go back again one day.

Everything was thought of down to having milk and bread there when we arrived to having the fire ready to light. (which we really liked seeing as it was snowing when we arrived). It was spotless also and finished to a very high standard. We all loved the kitchen especially the table, it was really nice to all be able to sit down to breakfast together. Castle View is also very close to Hemsley Village which looks like it belongs on a postcard. Lovely town with loads of nice little shops and pubs. We all really enjoyed our stay here and could not fault anything with it. So much so that we're hoping to return in the summer as we really loved the garden space and could not use it due to the below freezing weather.

The house was brilliant, very clean and in good order. The kids loved the fridge and had never drank so much water. Coming from London could not believe how nice it tasted. Walking into the village and on longer walks was excellent, also the historic buildings captured our imaginations. The only down side was sitting in the living room, not enough seats, suggest they move the book case into the conservatory, freeing up space in the living room for 10!!

This was the first house we have rented, it was a home from home. There was every thing we needed in the house and it was close to the shops, pubs and walks.

Excellent service and helpful information from Sykes. This is an excellent holiday home. The location is very good. The house is extremely comfortable. The welcome pack and flowers were such a lovely surprise. Thank you. We had a thoroughly enjoyable family short break and definitely would like to return to this lovely property for a longer holiday. The area has so much to offer.

The property was a great place for a family get together and in an excellent position, so close to the middle of Helmsley and yet so peaceful you thought you were in the heart of the countryside.

Lovely big spacious property furnished to a high standard. Well located for town centre, including pubs and castle. The cottage was very well equipped with everything you could need. The garden was beautiful with decking area and chiminea for bbq and fire. The owners seem to have thought of absolutely everything, try as we might we couldn't think of anything negative - it even had bikes in the shed. If the property belonged to me I wouldn't want to share it...

A fantastic place to spend time with family and friends, without feeling like we were on top of each other.
