We booked the piggery for a five day break including Christmas Day. What a great choice it was! The cottage is located on a quiet farm and is attached to the owners home. The barn conversion has been done to a high standard with underfloor heating and good shower. They have also managed to retain the stunning original features and character. The cottage is kitted out with everything you could possibly need! This was very handy since we were cooking Christmas dinner. We particularly appreciated the lovely welcome hamper, bread and fridge stocked with milk and butter. Saved us having to dash to the shops on arrival! The owners were extremely friendly and welcoming of both us and our dog. We would 100% recommend this property and hope to stay again ourselves in the future.

This is a lovely cottage on working farm. It has an attractive entrance and outlook. It had everything you need in a cottage. The owner was very helpful. My husband and I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage.

Piggery Cottage was close to all the main tourist attractions yet very quiet. The cottage was beautiful.

Rated by Mr Hargrave reviewed on 5th June 2016

The hosts were very welcoming and kind. The cottage was kitted out with every appliance we could have possibly dreamt of needing, and then some. It was sparkling clean, smelled lovely and was lovely on the colder nights with its underfloor heating. The location was great, with a superb view over the working sheep farm.

Rated by Mr De Ravel reviewed on 21st May 2016

The peace, quiet and surroundings were perfect. The owner went over and above expectations, everything that we needed was provided. This is a working farm, but the only noise during the day were the sheep. A perfect place and we were made very welcome.

This is a very nice cottage which was peaceful and tranquil. The owners who live next door are very nice and so helpful, it made it a nice holiday. The property is such a lovely place with such lovely people. We will be staying there again if we are in the area.

Piggery cottage is in an idyllic location, with beautiful views. The owner made us feel very welcome, it felt more like home than a rented accommodation. The facilities are excellent, everything was pristine and so comfortable, we had a very relaxing week and will definitely return.

Just returned from a week at Piggery Cottage and feel very relaxed. The owners make you feel very welcome from the minute you arrive, there is a lovely basket of treats and delicious home made cakes, perfect after the journey there. The cottage is very cosy, with a warm atmosphere, helped by the underfloor heating and comfortable furnishings, and everything you require is provided. It is in a good location on a farm next to the owners home, with beautiful countryside on your doorstep, and not far from Keswick, Carlisle and Cockermouth. We will definitely return in the future.

What a wonderful Christmas we had at Piggery Cottage! The owners were the perfect hosts and made us feel so welcome. The cottage was immaculate and there was plenty of space for our family of three. The owner had thought of everything, and all of the extra touches just made the cottage that bit more special. We will definitely be returning!

This Cottage was in the perfect location for a break in the North of the Lake District. It was well equipped and very clean. We had a fantastic time!

Our stay at Piggery Cottage was blessed with fine weather. Always a bonus in this North Western part of the UK. Lorna and Jim were extremely helpful and friendly and a joy to exchange stories with. The cottage is what we would call "superior" with every convenience available. Even set aside a large enclosed field for our Greyhound Cassie to stretch out. With Keswick and Cockermouth being only 30 minutes drive away the location is ideal for exploring the Northern Lakes and coast. Nice quiet location for peaceful relaxation. We intend to return.

Rated by G4BYG reviewed on 14th September 2015

For a couple or small family the cottage and location is ideal for both Northern Lakes and Solway Coast. Our hosts were a most friendly couple who helped to make our stay a memorable one.

Rated by Mr Rawson reviewed on 4th July 2015

This property was the best we have ever stayed in- The owner clearly went out her way to ensure the guests were made very welcome and had a comfortable stay. Superb location away from the hustle and bustle of a hectic life; quiet and within easy reach of the Lake District and Southern Scotland. 'B' and 'C' roads are so quiet it is a pleasure to drive at an unhurried pace. To chill out, this is the place to stay.

A lovely cosy cottage which was impressively stocked on arrival and in a peaceful location. Will book again.

The welcome was excellent, everywhere was clean and tidy, and the cottage was great. You are easily placed to visit lots of local towns. A really lovely place to stay.

Rated by Mr Griffiths reviewed on 16th May 2015

A very well equipped cottage, and the owner was exceptionally friendly, the hospitality was fabulous. The weather wasn't very kind to us but the owners baking and the cosiness of the cottage helped, and we had a lovely relaxing week. Will recommend this lovely cottage.

Rated by Mrs Templeton reviewed on 12th May 2015

We were warmly welcomed by the lovely owner, she asked us on more than one occasion if we needed anything, was a fabulous host. The cottage was perfect, in an idyllic location for the Lakes but near enough to shops for necessities. Will DEFINITELY be going back. Couldn't fault it.

Rated by Ms Thompson reviewed on 25th April 2015

The cottage was absolutely lovely in every respect - the owners had thought of everything and the welcoming goodies were excellent. All in all, well and truly above the normal for a rental cottage.

Rated by Mrs Hunter reviewed on 4th April 2015

It was peaceful and quiet. The facilities were advertised as dog friendly and they were actually dog fantastic. An excellent place to stay with your canine family members.

Rated by Mr Kimminau reviewed on 4th April 2015

Spent a week away from the hustle and bustle just the two of us and the pooches. This choice was selected as it is advertised as dog friendly. It is not only dog friendly it is dog fantastic. The Owners have a new puppy themselves having recently lost their older dogs, so are completely intune with the pooches needs. It has quiet unused (at the time we were there) paddocks for use by your canines and this makes it invaluable if you have weather as we did , 6days of rain and high winds, but thats Cumbria for you. Be respectful of the surrounding livestock and you will have a fantasticly peaceful break. The accomodation is recently completed but homely and one of the best equipped and goody packed that we have visited in the lakes (but I wont spoil the surprises!). Lounge and both bedrooms spacious and relaxing. Upstairs shower room and downstairs toilet small but easy to use. Be mindful when booking that if you intend to self cater for more than two adults and two small children, it will take some discipline in the food prep area as it is not large. Preparing and sitting and eating in the kitchen/diner is a challenge for two adults. More than that could prove interesting. That said we managed easily so dont let it put you off if you're not intending to eat in all the time. Access too and from is easy and the owners are very freindly and have some great tales to tell. Will definately use again if we go to this part of Cumbria again.

It was remiss of me not to write a review earlier, I've only just realised I hadn't done it. We spent Xmas at the Piggery and it was an absolute delight. Beautifully decorated for the occasion, Lorna did herself proud. For anyone wanting an above average break, this is for you. From the moment you arrive, until the moment you leave, you are made to feel .......well, ......just part of things. An excellent welcome pack is just the beginning, Comfortable, clean beyond words, restful, warm, a feeling of country living, with chickens, cats, dogs, sheep and a couple of horses for good measure to welcome you when you step outside each morning. Bliss. Ideal for the Northern lakes, and all that they offer, the Piggery is an easy drive from North or South, and an easy 15/20 minutes from Carlisle on a straight road. My congratulations to Jim & Lorna on an excellent country retreat.

Rated by Jim C reviewed on 12th February 2015

Piggery cottage is just stunning. The views are fantastic. If you are looking for peace and quiet then Piggery Cottage is just the place. You wouldnt have know that it was on a working farm. The owners Lorna and Jim were very welcoming and the welcome pack that was left for us was more than you would ever expect. Bread, butter, milk, fresh orange juice, home made lemon drizzle cake (our favourite), home made biscuits, crisps, sweets, dog treats. We didnt want for anything. Wigton is a just a short drive away and has various shops, takeaways and more. We have recommended Piggery Cottage to friends already and will be returning next year.

Excellent, well equipped and comfortable cottage. Very quiet location despite farmyard close by.

Rated by Mr Nicolson reviewed on 16th August 2014

Lovely property, with a friendly and accommodating hostess. Made us feel very welcome, including the use of a fenced field so our blind and deaf dogs could be let off lead for the first time. The cottage came stocked with enough home-baked goods to keep us going for a fortnight! Living area is very cosy, perfect for winding down after a day of hiking. It's a bit of a drive to get to any of the main tourist spots, although even the southern lakes are manageable. With scenery like that, it's a pleasant journey regardless. The only downside for us was that the mattress wasn't the best, but nevertheless - highly recommended.

We couldn't find fault with Piggery Cottage at all, it was absolutely beautiful. It was to a very high standard. We have stayed in many cottages and the Piggery was certainly up there with the best. The owners were very friendly and helpful at all times and the welcome pack was unbelievable. I would recommend Piggery cottage to anyone; a couple on their own, a small family and someone with a dog too.

My partner and I were looking for somewhere to stay with our dog in the Lake District. Wigton was a nice area, Keswick a short drive away. Our cottage was lovely, very clean and tidy. Surrounded by fields for our dog to run in the morning. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking to take a short break away to the Lake District.

5 star luxury is what you get at Piggery Cottage! Everything has been thought of at this holiday let. From a family who have stayed in numerous holiday lets we are more than qualified to say that the attention to detail is unparalleled. The cottage is absolutely spotless. There is even a super hairdresser at the holiday-let. The Wilson family are the most fantastic hosts! They offered us the most fabulous introduction to Cumbria. Piggery Cottages' location is superb, within easy reach of Carlisle (castle/theatre/shopping), Keswick (picturesque market town - lots of outdoor clothing shops & the delightful Booths supermarket), Cockermouth (beautiful historic town), Allonby (the place for ice cream) and Silloth (the beach), and Wigton for amenities. Simply perfect!
