Hudswell is a small village located just two miles the town of Richmond in Swaledale. The town grew up around its castle and today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed by the castle or alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls. Narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers' market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy.

Reviews

We stayed in this beautiful cottage in May. It is absolutely gorgeous, very clean and a magnificent welcome pack along with fresh baked scones waiting for you for ‘afternoon tea’. There is a pub in walking distance with lovely home cooked meals or try the Holly Inn just on way to Richmond about 5 minute drive away. Cottage is situated in a beautiful village and not far from Richmond and Catterick. We will definitely be back.

The owner had thought of and provided all of the refinements which turn a comfortable cottage into a true home from home. The best cottage we've stayed in, by far.

Excellent property, a little hem in a wonderful friendly village. Ideally situated for all amenities and within walking distance of Richmond. It ticked all the boxes we had a fab time. We recommend the village pub, we had an excellent meal and real ales. The shop was staffed by friendly villagers and had everything that we needed.

The cottage was perfect, the best I have ever stayed in! It was really cosy. A lovely owner who met you on arrival and showed you around. We didn't want to leave! We have booked to go again at the end of the year and I'm encouraging lots of friends to go and stay and see for themselves how good it is!

The accommodation was excellent, warm and inviting. In particular the kitchen was a bright and comfortable environment to prepare and eat meals. The owner gave a good introduction to the property, offered good advice on the area and was on hand to deal with any issues that might arise. Although the weather for our week could be classed as "soggy" we really enjoyed our holiday and will be back, hopefully when the climate is more kind.

This cottage has been recently converted and offers homely and luxurious accommodation in this hill top village, 5 minutes drive from Richmond. It is very well equipped with up to date quality appliances and all those little extras to make you feel at home. The owners were very welcoming. There were many country walks from the doorstep and the local pub only yards away served excellent beer and food. Best Sunday Lunch we have eaten in years! We would love to return again for a relaxing break.

Rated by Mr Russell reviewed on 14th September 2014

This beautiful cottage far exceeded both my husband's and my expectations. As soon as we arrived we were blown away with how amazing it was. It was refurbished and furnished to a very high standard and a great deal of money and thought had gone into the layout. The Cottage was very warm - in addition to the log burner in the sitting room there were also wall heaters in every room. In the kitchen everything was available from detergent down to bin liners, we just had to supply our own food. The bathroom boasted a large shaped bath with two overhead showers, one as large as a dinner plate and the other a small one that could be hand held. It had a heated towel rail plus underfloor heating. Carefully positioned skylights had been fitted throughout the Cottage which gave the cottage incredible light during the day. Outside the French windows at the back of the Cottage was a small enclosed patio with potted plants which were tended to regularly. There was also a very beautiful table and chairs for us to use if we chose to eat outside. Outside the front of the cottage was a black wrought iron bench as well. As well as the usual TV, Freeview and DVD player we also had the use of a CD player and WiFi had been fitted the week before we arrived. This proved to be very reliable. DVD's, games, books and local brochures were also all supplied.
