Reviews

We stayed at this cottage last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The accommodation is very spacious and upon arrival exceptionally clean. There were many thoughtful extras in the property, including kitchen items, plenty of towels instead of the usual one each and although we didn't get to meet the owners, they had left us a lovely cake, so we were happy. There is a well stocked shop in this quiet village, and Pocklington is easy to get to for more shops and supermarkets. Overall a very enjoyable break.

Spacious, airy property in a delightful village setting. The seating is uncomfortable and seat pads to the sofas need attention. The Extractor fan/light was not working nor a strip light over the counter worktop in the kitchen, it was difficult to see the dial settings on the hob (had to use a torch)! I note that in October 2015 that a reviewer also complained regarding the seating and nearly 12 months down the line the sofas are no better. Reported the lighting issue to the owners the day before we left and it was three full days before a response was received.

We found the Old Chapel to be the perfect base, for exploring East Yorkshire and the east coast. The Chapel itself was a delight to stay in, comfortable and relaxing, with plenty of space in which to relax. The Village and local area provided ample opportunity for walking, which always seemed to lead to the excellent Village pub.

This is the second year in a row we've stayed at the Chapel and once again it has not let us down. I only wish that it was my permanent residence as its so beautiful! The village itself is quiet and very friendly. There are plenty of walks to do, as well visiting local attractions such as York and the Eden Camp. We would definitely come again and make it a third year running. The rooms are spotless, both years we've been greeted with a cake on arrival which after a 4 hour drive was perfect with a cup of tea! Pet friendly too which is great for our little cavapoo - the outside courtyard was perfect for having a drink outside in the summer sun! I could go on more but I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a calm, peaceful yet stylish and modern get away :)

We fell in love with The Old Chapel; it's just a beautiful home inside and out. It's set in lovely surroundings. The village itself is charming with very friendly people. We had a wonderful holiday and would definitely stay again.

The photos of this place are AMAZING, but the stay was even better. The little village and the sun shining; everything was way better than expected.

The Old Chapel in Bishop Wilton is a fantastic holiday cottage in a brilliant location. The property has been refurbished to a very high standard with great quality amenities. The living accommodation and kitchen are very tastefully decorated and designed, and the conversion of the Chapel is gorgeous the bedrooms are large and all beds comfortable and the property was very clean. The photos on the web site don’t do it justice in that the property is much bigger internally than the photos depict. Bishop Wilton is a lovely village, ideally situated for York, Whitby, Scarborough, and Sheffield, and all the delights that Yorkshire has to offer. The local shop was very good, had everything you would need, and you always received a warm welcome. The Fleece Inn, which is two minutes’ walk away, is a lovely pub with great food, excellent beer, and fantastic hospitality. The owners of the Old Chapel are extremely helpful and were able to provide a range of information about the local area and help us with some logistics when we stayed. This is truly a five star cottage in a marvellous location and we had a tremendous holiday, and can’t wait to go back next year (we rarely go back to places).

We stayed at The Old Chapel for a third time and enjoyed every aspect of the experience. An unusual and great place to stay comfortable In the knowledge that the property is maintained to a very high standard. A 'Chocolate Box' village in a beautiful location. Walking to the local pub only a couple of hundred yards where good pub food was served added to the experience. We have no hesitation recommending The Old Chapel to anyone seeking a high quality holiday cottage that has everything going for it.

What a lovely quirky holiday cottage. We loved the upside down layout of The Old Chapel and it had 3 very spacious bedrooms and bathroom with extra loo too! Kitchen was very well equipped and seating area outside nice. Unfortunately the 2 sofa's in the lounge have seen better days, they are in need of new foam in the seats or replacing altogether. Not very comfortable to relax on. Light bulbs needed replacing and there was thick layers of dust on certain surfaces. The large lounge mat was coming up at the corners so was a slight trip hazard. The windows upstairs aren't child safe as they do open quite wide, must admit that we're not sure if they had child locks fitted. All that said we would return to The Old Chapel as Bishop Wilton is such a lovely, tranquil place.

The house was lovely, we all felt relaxed and at home from the moment we walked though the door. A good base for days out and lovely to return to to wind down in the evenings.

We had a great holiday in this delightful building. It is furnished and equipped to a very high standard and has everything necessary for a comfortable stay. We quickly felt at home and didn't really want to leave at the end of the week. The welcome goodies even including a chew for the dog! Bishop Wilton is a lovely village and ideal base for touring this part of Yorkshire.

My husband, sister, brother in law and myself stayed in this wonderful cottage for one week of our annual summer holiday. The cottage is well furnished. The bedrooms are of a high standard with clean comfortable beds. The bathroom and separate toilet, were well stocked with complimentary toiletries. The open plan lounge/kitchen was very comfortable. The cottage has lovely views of the Yorkshire Wolds. It's wi fi connection was great and had a fairly decent mobile phone reception. We were blessed with great weather and made good use of the exceptional sunny courtyard and barbeque. It was hard to leave this lovely cottage in such a beautiful part of the country. The locals were friendly. The local pub - 'The Fleece Inn' is highly recommended, delicious hot food and generous servings. Well worth a visit.

A beautiful welcoming property which was warm and comfortable with a light and spacious feel. Particularly liked the 'upside down' layout that made the most of the building. Also liked the king size beds! Everything was well thought out and presented. Would certainly recommend it to others.

The cottage itself was perfect for us. It was nice and quiet, very comfortable and with all the amenities of home. It was set in a lovely village just a few miles to the East of York and therefore very handy for visiting a number of key attractions in the area and we took full advantage of this and the good weather we experienced all week.

The accommodation was better than we imagined. Loved the area and all the little special touches the owners left. We loved all the space too, especially with a two year old and our dog. Would definitely be back again, it made our holiday special.

The cottage was beautifully furnished and very well equipped. The beds were very comfortable and the owners had left everything we could possibly need. The village itself was lovely with some very scenic walks around and is located very close to York where there is much to see and do. All in all this was a wonderful holiday home, I will definitely recommend The Old Chapel to friends and family.

A very tasteful conversation with nothing lacking in the way of facilities. Tea, milk, sugar, cake bottle of wine for us on arrival. Spotlessly clean. We stayed for two weeks and at the end of the first week, the cottage was cleaned, bedding and towels changed and all left in apple-pie order. Wonderful location; couldn't recommend it highly enough.

The Old Chapel had absolutely everything we could have needed which made the holiday relaxing & enjoyable. There was lots of information about local attractions, maps, games for the kids and even a blender. The location of the Old Chapel was breathtaking and the beds were fantastically comfy.

What a fantastic house, it had everything you could possibly require and it was definitely a home from home. It is a lovely little village. We ate in the pub every night, the food was lovely and very reasonable. I would recommend it to all of my friends.

We had such a relaxing getaway in this delightful Chapel conversion. Everything is brand new, we were the first guests since it's renovation! The scenery is stunning with walking on the Wolds on the doorstep, York a stones throw and we even a day out at the coast. The food at the village pub (just a 2 min walk) was homemade & generous portions. We didn't have children with us but there were toys in the bunk room and plastic plates in the cupboards so we'll bring our Grandchildren back with us next time. Highly recommended.
