A stay in the Humble daisy and the Old village barn is such an enjoyable experience from start to finish. The attention to detail was out of this world!! Mary Rose the host is such a wonderful lady that leaves no stone unturned. The accommodation is extremely clean and beautifully decorated. My family had a amazing stay.

We stayed here the first week of July 2020 when the country had been reopened after the first lockdown. The owner had taken every step necessary to ensure all COVID-19 guidelines were adhered to. The place was immaculate. Hand sanitizer was provided in the hall and extra cleaning products were provided in the kitchen. I think possibly the previous reviewers describe the place better than I can - it is everything they say and more. And yes, I too am reluctant to share the secret Suffice to say: The host Mary Rose was a lady and could not do enough for us. We were greeted with a warm “socially distanced” welcome, flowers in the hall, lit candles, classical music and a bottle of red wine. Interior finished to an extremely high standard. The pictures do not do it justice, it is much more spacious and luxurious than it appears. Lake was a joy and an adventure. Felt like a trip back to another world. Have booked return visit already for next year, fingers crossed will be able to go. Highly highly recommend.

I've read all the reviews from previous vacationers who have stayed at The Humble Daisy.....They all have had a wonderful time and enjoyed the fantastic hospitality shown by Mary Rose( the owner)...The fire lit and a bottle of red on arrival....Rare !! The spacious warm cosy so well equipped cottage..understated by the advertised description..also very rare. if you've read " Swallows and Amazons " then this is your place, the tranquil silence and a slow walk down the lane you arrive on the edge of Lake Derg, meet the friendly donkeys, and maybe take the boat out for a spin which is moored up in it's own boat shed in the same field as the donkeys, each step down the lane takes you back in time. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay,Beau the Rottie loved his time there,we were lucky with the weather but hey,if not, pop some logs on the fire and read a good book. Finally,I was tempted not to want to tell anyone about this piece of heaven..shear selfishness on my part but I would be doing Mary Rose a complete injustice, so, if you like empty roads ,wonderful friendly people, views to die for, then book this place before you die, take a telescope for the dark night sky and an easel and paints if you are that way inclined. Thank You Mary Rose, you will see us again.

My husband and I stayed at The Humble Daisy for 7 nights. The warm welcome we received from Mary Rose was lovely and friendly. Herfamily too were very helpful went out of their way to help and give advise. The cottage is truly beautiful. Warm and cosy. The fire was lit for us on our arrival with a bottle of wine and two glasses waiting to be opened. The cottage is extremely well equipped with everything you would need. The boat was a wonderful bonus and we took it out onto the Lough several times during our stay. I would highly recommend a stay at this little hidden gem.

From the moment of arrival you know your somewhere special .A scented candle and wild flowers greet you at the door and as you are drawn to the smell of the log fire in the sitting room there is a lovely bottle of wine and glasses awaiting you, you know your on holidays. The house itself is spotlessly clean and has everything you would need . A lovely courtyard off the kitchen with garden furniture is ideal for the morning cuppa or relaxation in the evenings. Just a short stroll down the lane to the lake you will find the boat but as storm Ali was on her way it was too choppy to venture out. Mary Rose couldn't have been more helpful with local information on places to see and where to eat but the house has plenty of leaflets on this. I would highly recommend this beautiful house, you will not be disappointed.

The Humble Daisy is truly a wonderful Irish getaway from it all cottage. Don't be fooled by the outside size, it is quite large inside. Our party was at max capacity and not once did we feel tight in the space. There are 3 full bathrooms as well. The house is definitely in the country, so if you are from the States, like us, I hope you are truly wanting to get away from it all because they don't have a million shopping centers in Ireland like we do here. We loved everything about this house. We were lucky to stay there during the heat wave so we had beautiful days for the entire trip. We took out the boat, did some fishing (no luck) and some swimming. The house is about a little over an hour away from Galway City. We were able to visit many sites during the day because it didn't get dark until 11 pm. The cottage owner and neighbors were VERY friendly and welcoming. We would definitely recommend this house!

If you are looking for a quite relaxing break this is ideal, the cottage is stunning and tastefully decorated to a very high standard with everything you need. We went horse riding in Slieve Aughty which was great fun and had a lovely meal in Woodford. Not ideal for kids especially in the winter and any more than 3 days would have been a struggle with them however i would have stayed a week or more ! Mary Rose and her family were extremely helpful and welcoming and a pleasure to deal with and many thanks for a wonderful stay in your beautiful cottage !

From the moment we arrived and were met by Mary Rose & Oliver who were very friendly and welcoming, they showed us around their amazing country cottage and gave us a few pointers for restaurants around the area. The cottage has all you could want and is clean and tidy and in a great location so see the sights. Took the boat out a few times which was great fun and something a little different and you have to pass the 2 adorable donkeys down the laneway. Would definitely recommend a visit to the Humble Daisy and already wanting to come back.

Stayed at the Humble Daisy for a week and wasn't disappointed, on arrival we were met by Mary Rose & Oliver who were very welcoming and friendly and showed us around their lovely cottage. The place has all you could need and is a home from home and nothing bad to say about the cottage. Took the boat out a couple of times which was great fun and something a little different from the norm so would definitely recommend that, its only a short walk from the cottage down a lane and you have to pass their two adorable donkeys that loved getting their daily apples from us. Location is perfect and not too far from local shops, bars and restaurants where we also ventured and met some fantastic locals. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and we will be booking again to take another chilled out week, also great for the dogs and they had a blast running about the fields and laneways. Great work guys and keep up the good work.

Wow, this is such a great hide away from the world. In the middle of nowhere. A great fire place in the living room and good stuff in the kitchen (Nespresso, water heater, oven, magnetron, washing machine, etc) make this place a place where you can relax and unstress. We were welcomed by Mary Rose with a bottle of wine and a burning fire. The lake is beautiful with stunning views. The boat (with engine!) brings you to the swans and small islands. What else to say? The cottage breathes love and dedication. Very clean. 3 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms. Don't forget to shop before arriving. The nearest supermarket is about 20 minutes driving.

We staied a week in the humble daisy and enjoyed it very much. The cottage is lovely and has everything you need, even a dishwasher. The owners are very nice and try to help you wherever they can. They even brought us a tricycle and some toys for our little son. It's perfect to go fishing and has even its own motorboat. The only negative point, if you can say so, is that it is quite secluded. To go shopping or go for a drink you have to drive 20min to Portumna (and the streets are partly very rustic), bigger cities are about an hours drive away.

The Humble Daisy is a lovely spacious cottage in beautiful surroundings - it is a peaceful and relaxing retreat. We were very surprised at how big the cottage was, it would very comfortably sleep six people with plenty of space to store luggage and laundry. However we just had it for ourselves (two adults) and one very small dachshund, and it was bliss.

Blissful peace and quiet! A lovely spot with easy access to Lough Derg. It was especially nice to be welcomed by the owners themselves and be given information about local restaurants etc. They were also available by phone for any small queries which arose. The use of their boat on the lough was a lovely treat and Oliver took time to show us how to operate it.

Beautiful comfortable cottage with a real cosy feel to it. Much bigger than we expected. The owners went out of their way to help us and they gave us such a warm welcome.

A beautiful cottage in a lovely peaceful part of Ireland, and having the boat to use with the cottage was excellent, there was lots of bird life and otters out on the loch. A very relaxing holiday.

This was the most perfect cottage, and the owners made us very welcome. I would recommend The Humble Daisy to anyone who wants a quiet, beautiful location by the beautiful Lough Derg, but within easy reach of Galway.

For anyone looking for a REAL away-from-it-all holiday this has got to be the best I have yet encountered. If you like open log fires, the odd bottle of wine and stunning lakes, forests and great Irish food in nearby towns and rural villages - well this has to go on your list. The cottage has literally everything you need and all best quality. There was a bottle of heady wine and a log fire to welcome us - all we had to add was our choice of food for the week and a bit more wine to go with the atmosphere. My job takes me all over the world and so I don't really relax too well on "holiday" except here and I can say that I REALLY chilled for the first time in memory. If you want sport there are boats, fishing, bikes, golf (nearby) etc etc... The West of Ireland is rich in all the good things in life and in my "Humble" opinion this delightful cottage exemplifies the very best of it. N

A lovely cottage with all you need. It was a pleasure to stay here and we would book it again, if we stay near this area. Thanks to the landlady. All in all, superb.

The Humble Daisy was a true delight! From the moment we stepped in, we were delighted! The owners have taken every step to ensure you have a beautiful home to stay in. The bedding was wonderful, and the house was very clean and cosy. We loved the fireplace and the darling living room. The new modern kitchen was beautiful and very easy to relax in. We spent so much time in this house just enjoying it. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting Galway.

Really loved our stay at The Humble Daisy! Very comfortable and beautiful cottage, much larger than expected with beautiful gardens and with the use of the owners fields made the stay with our two springer spaniels perfect! Although no internet connection or wifi, this was actually a bonus as it made for a much more relaxing holiday. Mary Rose was fantastic and extremely helpful.

The owner was a lovely lady and very welcoming. When we arrived there was a fire waiting for us in the cottage. The cottage itself was homely and comfortable; we slept so well and had a very lazy and relaxing holiday!

Wonderful house, wonderful scenery, very relaxing brilliant location for walking holiday. My two Cocker Spaniels had a great time. Beds are very comfortable with high standard through out the house it felt like being at home very cosy and comfy excellent place for fishing or romantic getaway. Also excellent place for photography or painting being able to use the owners land for walking the dogs and having access to areas off Lough Derg

The owners close by were charming and very helpful throughout. A very comfortable and peaceful location but with plenty to do including boat and pier fishing, cycling and lovely walks.

Rated by Mr Vincent reviewed on 12th October 2014

A charming restored cottage with all the modern conveniences. Needs screens, on windows & doors, however because of its rural location. On the downside, the cottage is very isolated with nearest shopping in Portumna 20 miles away. Driving on narrow 1 1/2 lane roads with tractors approaching you is nerve wracking for people not used to driving on the left side of the road, etc. Ergo: it's not a good location if you want to use this as a base of operation for day trips throughout Galway.

The 19th century restored thatched roof cottage was absolutely outstanding in every respect and our hosts were very friendly and helpful.
